Since a ceasefire in the Gaza conflict came into effect on January 19, a series of trucks carrying aid have been allowed into the strip.
The truce is being maintained on the basis that Hamas releases Israeli hostages taken in the October 7, 2023 attack, in exchange for 1,900 people being held in Tel Aviv prisons.
So far, Hamas has released seven hostages and 290 prisoners and is expected to release three more hostages on January 30.
However, the armed group Hamas has accused Israel of delaying the delivery of aid, especially essential items for Gaza's reconstruction such as fuel, tents, heavy machinery...
"According to the agreement, these materials were supposed to be delivered within the first week of the ceasefire. If the delay continues and these issues are not resolved, the implementation of the agreement will be seriously affected, including the prisoner exchange," a senior Hamas official warned.
In response, Israel has denied the allegations. A spokesman for the Israeli Defense Ministry's Coordination of Civil Affairs in the Palestinian Territories (COGAT) said "this is completely fake news," and stressed that from January 26 to 29, 3,000 trucks had entered Gaza out of a total of 4,200 trucks in the 7 days under the agreement.
The two sides are currently implementing the first 42-day phase of the ceasefire agreement, under which 33 hostages will be released.
