On September 5, providing information on the implementation status of the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway project, Mr. Dang Huu Vi, Director of the Southern Expressway Management Board (Vietnam Expressway Corporation) said that up to now, the total output of the project has reached about 85% of the plan.
Overall, the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway packages have reached about 85%.
Of which, 5 packages (A2-1, A3, J2, A5, A7) have been basically completed. There are 8 packages (A1-1, A2.2-4, J1, A6-1, A6-2, A6-3, A6-4, A6-5) under construction.
According to Mr. Vi, from now until the end of 2024, we will try to open a section through Long An from the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway to the intersection with National Highway 1 through Binh Chanh District. In the East, we will open a section from the intersection with National Highway 51 to the Phuoc An inter-port road.
The road through the mangrove forest in Dong Nai has taken shape, forming a long silk strip across the green forest.
In addition, there is another very important bridge on the route, Binh Khanh Bridge (package J1), which has so far reached 82% of construction volume.
The Project Management Board is coordinating and urging contractors to speed up progress, trying to remove difficulties, and bring the entire project to the finish line as soon as possible.
Binh Khanh Bridge progress has reached about 82%.
Phuoc Khanh Bridge (package J3) is being re-bid. Phuoc Khanh Bridge crosses Long Tau River connecting Can Gio District (HCMC) and Nhon Trach District (Dong Nai). Previously, this bridge was built by a joint venture of Sumitomo Mitsui (Japan) - Cienco 4 (Vietnam).
By 2022, the Vietnam Expressway Corporation and the contractor had terminated the contract when the total volume reached 80.70%. The remaining main volume of this package includes the main girder, bridge deck and cable-stayed system, asphalt concrete, lighting system, railings, median strip, and main bridge drainage system.
The pillars of Binh Khanh bridge are stretching out in the middle of the river.
"Phuoc Khanh Bridge is the critical part of the project. Only after this bridge is completed can the entire route be opened. Therefore, we are currently inviting bids again and trying to restart this project soon," said Mr. Vi.
The Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway is a key project in the North - South Expressway system. This expressway passes through 3 provinces and cities: Long An, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai with a total length of nearly 58km, and a total initial investment of 31,320 billion VND.
The starting point of the route is in Ben Luc district (Long An) connecting to Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway. The end point connects to National Highway 51 in Long Thanh district (Dong Nai).
The project started in July 2014 and was expected to be completed and put into use in 2019. However, the implementation process encountered many difficulties, so the construction time was prolonged. The investor also committed to completing the entire project in September 2025.
