The trend of using IELTS certificates in university admissions has appeared since 2017 and has become increasingly popular. In recent years, about 100 universities from economics, engineering, medicine to police and military have applied this form of admission.

This test evaluates the four skills of Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking of candidates on a 9-point scale. According to IELTS test data, published on the IELTS homepage, the average IELTS score of Vietnamese people is 6.2/9.0 for the Academic test, ranking 29th out of 39 countries and territories surveyed.

What is the point conversion rate?

With an IELTS certificate from 4.0 - 9.0, candidates can convert it into 6 - 10 points in English when applying for university admission in 2025.

Currently, many schools have announced their 2025 enrollment plans. Many schools allow candidates to convert IELTS scores, combined with many other factors for admission consideration.

This year's admission season, at some universities, with an IELTS certificate of 4.0 or higher, candidates will be converted into English subject scores. The majority of the remaining schools accept certificates of 5.0 or higher.

According to the university admission regulations issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, schools are allowed to convert foreign language certificates into scores for this subject to include in the admission combination, but the weighting must not exceed 50%.

In addition, the Ministry stipulates that the incentive points and bonus points for candidates with foreign language certificates must not exceed 10% of the maximum score on the scale (for example, a maximum of 3 points on a scale of 30).
