Once a £35m signing from Liverpool on £80,000 a week, Andy Carroll now plays in the French fourth division for Bordeaux, earning less than the minimum wage in France.
According to L'Equipe , Carroll only pocketed 1,614 euros before tax per month, and after tax, his actual income was less than 1,400 euros. Meanwhile, the minimum wage for full-time employees in France is 1,801 euros per month. This means Carroll is classified as a part-time employee at the club.
The modest salary reflects Bordeaux's dire financial situation, with the six-time Ligue 1 champions relegated to the fourth tier after declaring bankruptcy last year.
Still, Carroll is happy with his current life. In an interview earlier this season, he shared: "I'm renting a nice little house, and my salary is not even enough to cover the rent. But I definitely didn't come to Bordeaux for the money."

Despite his low salary, Carroll has still proved his worth by scoring eight goals for Bordeaux this season. According to the agreement, he can receive a bonus of 2,000 euros if he reaches the milestone of 10 goals or assists.
Not only did Carroll's career change, but his personal life also took a new turn. After splitting from his wife Billi Mucklow after an eight-year engagement, Carroll started dating celebrity makeup artist Lou Teasdale.
The couple went public with their relationship at Christmas and regularly shared romantic moments. Carroll has revealed that it was Lou's kind heart and concern for the community that made him feel she was the one he needed in his life.
As for Marseille, they played quite well when they ranked 3rd in the French 4th division, 5 and 6 points behind the top 2 teams after 24 rounds.
