A 13-year-old boy in Michigan said he felt panicked and quickly used a slingshot to shoot the kidnapper to save his sister.
The attempted kidnapping took place on May 10 outside the home of Owen Burns, 13, in Alpena, Michigan, USA. Owen's 8-year-old sister was outside looking for mushrooms. "I told her to be careful, and then it happened," Owen said on May 17.
Owen said he heard a scream, but thought his sister was playing with her friends. The second scream startled Owen.
"I looked out the window and saw my sister being kidnapped. I panicked," Owen said. "So I grabbed my slingshot, opened the window and picked up marbles and pebbles."

Local police said Owen shot the 17-year-old kidnapper in the head and chest, allowing his sister to escape. "I was lucky, he was a much bigger target than a soda can," Owen said.
The suspect fled the scene and was later arrested at a nearby gas station with injuries caused by a slingshot. He faces charges of attempted kidnapping and other crimes. Local police have described Owen’s actions as extraordinary.
Owen said he saved or at least prevented something bad from happening to his sister, insisting he had to act. "If I hadn't been there and heard her scream, she would have been gone," Owen said.
