The story behind the graduation photo that moved social media

A graduation photo is stirring up the Chinese public. The photo was taken at Yilong People's Hospital, where male student Ren Junjie is being treated for terminal cancer.

When his classmates came to visit Ren and take graduation photos with him, no one expected that the very next day, the 15-year-old boy would pass away.

Ren was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma last year and was forced to drop out of school to receive treatment. However, he was recently transferred to a hospital closer to home to facilitate his final stage treatment.

On May 17, Ren's classmates were scheduled to take their junior high school graduation photos, and they made a special decision. More than 50 students, along with some teachers, visited Ren at the hospital. They helped Ren put on his uniform, then pushed Ren's bed out into the hospital grounds so that the whole class could take their graduation photos together.

The photo capturing the moment when his classmates stood around Ren's hospital bed moved the Chinese public. Many called it "the most special graduation photo".

When visiting Ren, many students brought letters of encouragement and small gifts in the hope that a miracle would happen to Ren.

Ren’s family shared photos taken at the hospital grounds on social media. His parents expressed their gratitude to his teachers and classmates for their warm care for Ren, giving the teenager a beautiful, warm memory on the last day of his life.

Less than a day after the photo shoot, Ren's health suddenly took a turn for the worse. He passed away at 4am on May 18.

Ren’s story and the graduation photo taken at the hospital quickly went viral on Chinese social media. Many people sent condolences to her family via social media, and wished Ren’s classmates good luck in their upcoming exams.
