On the morning of May 29, 9th grade students at Tran Van On Secondary School still went to school to review three subjects for the 10th grade entrance exam including literature, math, and English after completing the 9th grade program.
Useful for students
At the beginning of summer, the schoolyard was quiet. Only grade 9 students were still studying. In the classes, teachers gave students three subjects to review for the 10th grade entrance exam. Le Hoang Van Anh said she was very happy to participate in the free 10th grade review classes and clubs organized by the school.
"Three weeks ago, the school organized three 10th grade review clubs, including math, literature, and English, for us to register to participate in depending on our learning ability. Currently, the school has stopped those clubs and switched to teaching three exam subjects in classes.
The teachers let us solve the questions and correct the mistakes in the questions. After a few weeks of studying like that, my knowledge gaps have improved. I also have new ideas in doing the test and feel more alert in understanding the questions" - Van Anh said.
Ho Thien Bao - another 9th grade student - also said that two weeks ago he stopped attending extra classes outside to join literature, math, English clubs and classes at school.
"I find participating in clubs and classes at school effective. For example, in math, the teachers give many advanced lessons, give many difficult lessons and follow the curriculum closely. I am very happy that the school organizes exam review classes" - Thien Bao shared.
Voluntary participation
Mr. Nguyen Cong Phuc Khanh - Vice Principal in charge of Tran Van On Secondary School - said that up to now, the school has organized four weeks of free 10th grade entrance exam review for students. Three weeks ago, the school taught students regular classes in the morning, and in the afternoon, organized 10th grade exam review in the form of clubs (literature, math, English).
These clubs are aimed at helping students review for the exam, focusing on the difficult and new issues of this year's exam. For example, in math, the school organizes clubs to increase students' ability to think practically in math. In the last week, the school focuses on teaching students to review for all three subjects.
"Students are free to register for the exam preparation, but after four weeks of study, most of them actively participate. The school tries to do this to create conditions for students who do not have the conditions to review at outside centers to come to school to review for the exam.
On the other hand, parents also feel secure when they are at work and cannot monitor their children's studies, the school will closely monitor and urge them," Mr. Khanh added.

At the end of May, the border area of Buon Don ( Dak Lak ) was scorching hot, but teacher Nguyen Phung Hien - vice principal of Buon Don District Ethnic Boarding Secondary School - put on his backpack and set out to find his dropout students.
Student Robin, in grade 9, skipped school for nearly a month to follow his friends into the forest to catch birds to sell for money. "It's not because of difficulties. The school has taken care of tuition and food, but I don't fully understand the meaning of studying. Seeing my older siblings working and making money, I wanted to follow them and drop out of school," said teacher Hien.
Despite the hardships and heat, Mr. Hien still overcame the bumpy road to the field where Robin's parents farmed. Meeting his mother, Mrs. H'Biar, he learned that Robin was trapping birds in the forest. Mr. Hien and his colleagues did not give up, persistently encouraging Robin to return to school. Robin returned to class even though he was not sure if he would continue his studies after 9th grade.
Talking about his journey, Mr. Hien said that many students from Buon Don Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities dropped out of school for unknown reasons, leaving empty classrooms. "Every time we take roll call, we not only check the number of students but also plan to find the students," he said.
Mr. Do Ngoc Anh, Head of theEducation Department of Buon Don District, was moved: "Teachers here keep each child in school not only to study but also to preserve the future of the village. This school year, 20 ninth graders registered to take the entrance exam to N'Trang Long Boarding Ethnic High School, many of them chose to learn a trade to help their families. Each direction begins from the moment they return to class," he said.
Exam invigilators do not handle unusual situations on their own.
On May 29, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training organized a training session on invigilation of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year.
At the training session, the department reminded the exam supervisors not to arbitrarily handle unusual situations or incidents, especially those that affect the rights of candidates. When an unusual situation occurs, it is necessary to immediately report to the chairman of the exam council (through the exam room supervisor) for instructions on how to handle it.
At the same time, the chairman of the examination board must report all unusual situations or incidents to the department for guidance. He must not arbitrarily handle unusual situations or incidents that affect the rights of candidates.
Regarding the common mistake candidates make when entering the exam room, which is bringing a cell phone, Mr. Le Hoai Nam - deputy director of the department - said: "If the exam invigilator has reminded the candidate many times but the candidate still deliberately brings it in, it is the candidate's fault.
However, if the invigilator does not remind or only reminds once, the candidate due to stress accidentally brings a mobile phone into the exam room, it is the invigilator's responsibility. Therefore, the invigilator needs to remind the candidate many times not to bring a mobile phone into the exam room" - Mr. Nam emphasized.
The 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City took place at 142 testing locations on June 6 and 7.
