1. The chicken tying plant is a carnivorous plant. Drosera burmannii attracts and traps small insects with mucus glands on its leaves, adding nutrients to the poor soil environment. 3. Extremely fast prey response. The leaves of Drosera burmannii can fold within tens of seconds of contact with prey – one of the fastest plant reactions. Photo: iNaturalist. 4. Can digest its prey. After holding onto the insect, the plant will secrete digestive enzymes such as protease and phosphatase to break down soft tissue and absorb nutrients. Photo: succulentflytraps.com.au.
5. Small size, eye-catching shape. The plant is usually only 2-5 cm tall, has a rosette shape with a characteristic pink-red color, helping to reflect light and attract insects. Due to its strange appearance and “hunting” ability, the chicken tying plant is grown by many people as an ornamental plant in glass jars or trays of moist soil. 7. Sensitive to the living environment. Although strong in catching prey, the plant is easily affected by changes in humidity, light and soil pH, requiring stable living conditions. Photo: vecteezy.com.
