The Obstetrics Department of the Provincial General Hospital receives and treats an average of 50-60 patients per day. Of these, 10-15% are patients who need to stay in bed for prenatal care or treatment for fetal diseases. Ms. Song Thi Ly was 29 weeks pregnant with twins but had abdominal pain and signs of miscarriage and had to be hospitalized for treatment. After 2 weeks of treatment, the health of both mother and baby is now relatively stable.
Ms. SONG THI LY - Na Ot Commune, Mai Son, Son La : When I was admitted to the hospital, I had a little stomachache and the doctor said I was 2 centimeters dilated. The doctor told me to stay and give birth, but it was fine from morning to night. My condition is fine now.
According to obstetricians, abdominal pain is the first dangerous sign for pregnant women that needs to be examined and treated promptly, otherwise many dangerous complications can occur for both mother and child. In addition to maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle, pregnant women need to be alert to many dangerous signs during pregnancy to ensure a healthy pregnancy.
Dr. LE KHANH CHI - Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Son La Provincial General Hospital: The first common dangerous signs in mothers are systemic signs: the mother may experience dizziness, headache, blurred vision, or may notice that she is gaining weight quickly, swelling in the face and legs are dangerous signs warning of preeclampsia; next, the patient has signs of labor such as abdominal pain and bleeding.
An important component of the Project “Improving maternal and newborn health in ethnic minority communities” is Kangaroo Mother Care; this is an adaptive medical method chosen to care for premature or low birth weight babies.
Ms. VI THI PENG, Chieng On commune, Yen Chau, Son La: I came here in a premature condition, the baby was 2 kg under term. With the doctor's dedicated care using the Kangaroo method, I feel that my baby's health is getting better every day and the affection between mother and child is getting closer, the baby is breathing evenly and is healthier.
In Muong La district, the project “Improving maternal and newborn health in ethnic minority communities” in Son La province was implemented in 65 villages of 5 communes: Chieng Cong, Chieng Hoa, Chieng Muon, Chieng Lao, Nam Gion of Muong La district. These are communes with a large number of ethnic minorities, with limited knowledge of maternal and newborn health care.
Mr. QUANG VAN HAC, Head of the Chieng Lao Commune Health Station, Muong La, Son La: After implementing the project, the number of pregnant mothers in the commune increased, women came for prenatal check-ups and gave birth at medical facilities, reducing complications for pregnant women and population quality in the entire commune.
The success of the project has changed the behavior of safe motherhood and child care for ethnic minorities; mobilized the participation of the whole community; supported the maintenance of community initiatives, appropriate referral systems for emergency care for mothers and children, and enhanced the status of women; enhanced the knowledge and behavior of men in maternal and child health care through integration with existing activities in the community. Contributed to the goal of preventing child malnutrition, improving the physical condition and stature of ethnic minorities./.
