On the afternoon of February 13 (the 4th day of Tet), the number of cars from the Central provinces poured into the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay and Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressways through Dong Nai province, causing the number of vehicles to increase dramatically, with a 5km long line of cars moving slowly.
According to VietNamNet, on the same afternoon, on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway at the intersection with National Highway 1 through Xuan Loc district (Dong Nai), the expressway management force had to block the entrance to the expressway to reduce congestion on this expressway towards Ho Chi Minh City.
Vehicles on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay highway from Binh Thuan province poured in, and authorities had to direct vehicles moving in the direction of National Highway 1 to handle the incident on the highway.
The cause was determined to be that at around 4:50 p.m., a series of accidents occurred between 6 cars on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay highway (Cam My district, Dong Nai province), heading from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City.
After the series of accidents, traffic police quickly arrived to direct traffic and investigate the cause. The scene was then cleared to avoid prolonged congestion.
According to the authorities, people can choose an alternative route because the highway is congested. People can choose to go along National Highway 1 via Dong Nai Bridge or take Cat Lai Ferry to reduce traffic on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay and Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay highways.
