On the evening of February 22, speaking with VietNamNet reporters, the leader of the People's Committee of An Duong district ( Hai Phong city) said that a fire broke out at a national defense land in Khanh Thinh village, An Hong commune. On this land there is a warehouse of about 700 square meters. Authorities received a fire report at 7:30 p.m.
Upon receiving the information, leaders of An Duong District People's Committee, An Duong District Police and Head of Fire Prevention and Rescue Department (Hai Phong City Police) arrived at the scene to directly direct the fire fighting work.
Many firefighters and many fire fighting vehicles were mobilized to participate in extinguishing the fire.
Mr. Tran Anh Binh (born in 1978, residing in An Hong commune) said that when his family had just finished dinner, they heard an explosion, then smoke and fire billowed from the warehouse area that people used to call the internal warehouse.
When people arrived, the fire had already spread so much that all on-site firefighting efforts were ineffective. It took the firefighters more than 2 hours to bring the fire under control.
By 10:30 p.m., the fire was basically under control and did not spread to neighboring areas.
Colonel Hoang Van Binh, Head of Fire Prevention and Rescue Department, Hai Phong City Police, said the fire did not cause any human casualties, and property damage could not be estimated at this time.
The cause of the fire is being investigated and clarified by the An Duong District Police Department.
