At around 3:00 p.m. on March 3, residents of Hamlet 1, Xuan Thoi Thuong Commune discovered a column of black smoke rising tens of meters high, accompanied by many loud explosions.
When they arrived to check, they discovered that the mattress factory, which was about 2,000 square meters in size, was on fire. Local residents and some workers inside the factory tried to put out the fire with mini fire extinguishers but were unsuccessful.
The mattress factory was engulfed in flames and was at risk of spreading to the adjacent rubber factory.
Upon receiving the news, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Team of Hoc Mon District Police quickly dispatched many fire trucks and dozens of officers and soldiers to the scene to rescue. The police promptly moved a 7-seat car away from the scene.
Because the fire was so large, the police had to split into many directions to approach.
The fire was not brought under control until after 4 p.m. the same day. However, the police still broke through the roof to go deeper inside, continued to spray water, and completely extinguished the fire.
The fire did not cause any casualties, but the mattress factory was completely burned down. In addition, the rubber factory next door was also affected, the factory frame and corrugated iron roof collapsed.
The cause of the fire and damage are being investigated.
