Chelsea continue to reject Man Utd's offer to buy Mount

Man Utd's third offer is a slight increase from the second bid, but has not satisfied Chelsea.

According to Sky Sports on June 24, Chelsea rejected Man Utd's $70 million offer for Mason Mount. The Stamford Bridge team asked for $74 million plus $9 million in additional fees. Chelsea also offered to meet in person to try to reach a positive solution. Previously, Chelsea had rejected two initial offers worth $51 million and $64 million respectively.

According to Sky Sports , Man Utd are willing to negotiate further if they receive a positive response from Chelsea. But on the other hand, the "Red Devils" are also considering alternative targets.

In addition to Mount, Man Utd are also eyeing Declan Rice. They are facing competition from Arsenal and Man City. According to Sky Sports , the team that won the treble last season is willing to pay 95 million plus 19 million in additional fees to West Ham to buy Rice.

Due to financial fair play rules, Man Utd cannot spend most of their transfer budget on one player. The "Red Devils" also want to buy at least one striker and one goalkeeper. British press said Man Utd is targeting Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen and Andre Onana. Coach Erik Ten Hag also has to sell some players to make room for new players.

Ten Hag first met Mount when he was Ajax manager. The 18-year-old Englishman was on loan at Vitesse Arnhem from Chelsea. He took the free kick that led to the third goal, helping Vitesse Arnhem beat Ajax 3-2. Ten Hag was impressed with Mount's 14 goals and 10 assists in his first full season. The following season, he tried to take him on loan, but it was unsuccessful.

According to Sky Sports, the possibility of Mount staying at Chelsea is very small at the moment. He only has a contract until June 2024 and refuses to extend. Chelsea has determined that he must sell, if he does not want to lose him for free after a year. Man Utd can satisfy their wish if they continue to increase their asking price.

Mount has been playing for Chelsea's first team since the 2019-2020 season. The 24-year-old midfielder has contributed 33 goals and 33 assists in 195 games, helping Chelsea win a Champions League, a European Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup. Mount has played for England since 2019. He will attend Euro 2021 and the 2022 World Cup.
