Following the success of its television series, "Sao Nhập Ngũ" (Stars Join the Army) has now appeared on the concert stage, bringing together artists who participated in previous seasons. Notably, this musical event is being held at a significant time, as the country is looking forward to celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and National Day on September 2nd (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).
Besides prominent Vpop performers like Soobin, Chi Pu Besides Duong Hoang Yen, the "Stars Join the Army" concert also boasts a team of experienced professionals. This includes the trio of music director SlimV, stage director Dinh Ha Uyen Thu, and lighting director Long Kenji – names that contributed to the success of the "Brother Overcoming a Thousand Obstacles" concert series.
Music expresses the feelings of a soldier.
It's easy to see that the "Stars Join the Army" concert is divided into two distinct parts. For more than half of the first part, the program uses music to depict the ups and downs and emotions in the life of a soldier. In the second half, after the country has gained independence, the performances gradually become more cheerful, with melodies that evoke pride in the homeland and the nation.
The music in the program goes beyond just a listening experience; it becomes a meaningful piece of the puzzle, guiding the audience deep into the emotions of revolutionary soldiers. From the fervent atmosphere of the day of departure ( Singing the Marching Song Forever ), the longing for home ( Returning ), camaraderie ( Miracle ), romantic love ( Wherever Your Vehicle Goes, I Follow ), the yearning for family ( Behind Father ), to the stories of those who sacrificed themselves on the battlefield ( If One Day I Fly to Heaven ), the mother in the rear whose son went to war ( Mother Loves You ), and finally concluding with the joy of victory ( As if Uncle Ho were present on the day of the great victory ).
Similar to recent "patriotic" concerts, the music in "Sao Nhập Ngũ" (Stars Join the Army) also follows the trend of combining traditional elements with modern sounds of pop, hip-hop, and EDM. In addition, many performances utilize EDM drops for stage presentations and blend various traditional instruments, similar to what SlimV did in "Anh Trai Vượt Ngàn Càn Gai" (Brother Overcoming a Thousand Thorns).
However, it seems that this time, SlimV has also made a slight change, focusing more on emphasizing traditional elements. In the revolutionary music performances, it's easy to see that the artists still maintain the original song style, only the arrangement is updated to suit younger audiences and the narrative flow.
For example, in The girl leads the way , the female artists' voices are loud and decisive, with a few short embellishments to maintain a soft touch, thereby evoking a revolutionary lyricism against a backdrop of modern pop arrangement. Or with "Spring in the War Zone ," despite being arranged in an electronic style, carries a vibrant, fresh, and spring-like spirit, while still maintaining an atmosphere of encouragement and fervent fighting spirit.
Thanks to meticulous planning in both the storyline and the music, the image of the soldier emerges vividly and multifaceted, helping the audience both understand the emotions and appreciate the journey of the previous generation. Although some details still feel somewhat forced, such as when Jun Pham encounters a bomb crater and suddenly remembers his father, the emotionally rich music ensures that these minor awkwardness doesn't significantly affect the audience's experience.
In her solo performances, Duong Hoang Yen can be considered to have delivered a memorable stage. Her bright, powerful, and dramatic voice proved a great fit for the spirit of the program. The female singer participated in many acts, and each appearance left a lasting impression, from innocent and shy emotions to... Wherever your car goes, I'll follow ; my longing for you. "Mom loves you" ; or the sublime moment while singing. The path we take .
Although Soobin didn't appear frequently, he was always given key moments to shine, making each of his stage appearances impactful. Meanwhile, Chi Pu, whose strength lies in performance rather than vocals, didn't showcase much in this concert. However, her appearances in some segments, especially the revolutionary songs, added a certain charm.
Impressive staging
As the segment about soldiers concluded, the concert shifted to cheerful melodies celebrating peaceful life. At this point, youthful compositions were interspersed with heroic songs. However, it was also from this point that the concert began to cool down, as the musical highlights and content had already been fully explored in the previous section.
Moreover, in this section, some works, when remade, are less impressive than the original versions, for example, " The Mountain People's Character". by Double2T - Hau Hoang or The rose Performed by Chi Pu and Huong Giang. Many artists also overuse playback (singing over a pre-recorded track), making the live listening experience less authentic, while technical issues such as microphone mutes or backstage echoes still occur.
It wasn't until near the end that the atmosphere became lively again when Hoa Minzy and Truc Nhan appeared with songs that were closely associated with their names. North Bling, Turn on the love carrying fresh energy, and Four words It still managed to energize the audience after all these years. As a result, the atmosphere was heightened, creating a highlight for the show's conclusion.
Visually, Long Kenji's participation helped the "Military Training Star" achieve a stage quality almost on par with "Brotherhood of Overcoming a Thousand Thorns." From the lighting layout to the way the lights were projected, everything created a powerful visual effect, providing a visually stunning experience.
The stage design was visually stunning, especially the marching performance by soldiers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Border Guard. Scenes like the rugged Trường Sơn mountain range and the military skills demonstrations provided a unique experience rarely found in other concerts.
Despite some shortcomings, the "Stars Join the Army" concert generally delivered a high-quality event, even exceeding the initial expectations of many viewers. The event also contributed to creating a vibrant atmosphere and fostering patriotic spirit during this important national occasion.
