According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), South Korea currently favors processed and canned Vietnamese tuna.

According to VASEP, continuously for the past 3 months, exports tuna Vietnam's exports to South Korea have grown at a three-digit rate. In June alone, the export value reached nearly 6 million USD, nearly 6 times higher than the same period in 2023.
August 6, exchange with Tuoi Tre Online , Ms. Nguyen Ha, a tuna market expert of VASEP, said that among Vietnam's tuna export products, processed and canned tuna exports to South Korea are currently increasing sharply.
"Due to the global economic difficulties and recession, Korean people have tightened their consumption. Therefore, the demand for cheap seafood products such as canned tuna has increased. Vietnamese tuna is cheap and has a reasonable price, so the land of kimchi has increased its purchases since 2023," Ms. Ha informed.
Currently, South Korea mainly imports processed and canned tuna from Vietnam, accounting for 99% of total export turnover. Of which, South Korea mainly imports frozen steamed skipjack tuna meat.
Sharing the same view, a representative of a seafood business in Nha Trang City emphasized that the trend of seafood consumption in Korea has changed in line with the trend of reduced consumer spending.
"This is an opportunity for Vietnamese seafood to boost exports of seafood products at reasonable prices. While freight rates to the US and Europe are still increasing, markets with close geographical locations and stable consumption demand should Vietnamese business "Shifting exports to boost this market," the business emphasized.
