A bonsai apricot tree, nearly 50 years old, in Hue is being priced at over 100,000 USD (about 2.5 billion VND) by its garden owner.

On February 7, at the closing ceremony of the 2nd Hue apricot festival, many giant apricot trees were awarded gold, silver, and bronze prizes by the organizers. Among them, the most notable was the "giant" apricot tree displayed in the exhibition area, valued by the garden owner at over 100,000 USD.

The owner of this apricot tree that made many people admire is Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Son (47 years old, from Moc Mai garden, Phu Thuong ward, Hue city).

*This apricot tree is nearly 50 years old, planted in Dien Hoa apricot village, Dien Hoa commune (Phong Dien district, Thua Thien - Hue).*

Mr. Son shared that this apricot tree is valuable because it is nearly 50 years old, originating from the "capital" of apricots Dien Hoa, one of the villages with a famous tradition of growing yellow apricots in Hue. In 2019, Mr. Son went there to buy this apricot tree, then brought it back to carefully care for and shape it until now. "The apricot tree was carefully cared for by the previous owner in a pot, and after about 30 years, it was planted in the ground. Having been shaped from a young age, the tree has a natural shape. This is also one of the biggest trees in this village," Mr. Son said.

Talking to Thanh Nien reporter, Mr. Son said that he had priced this work at more than 100,000 USD, equivalent to about 2.5 billion VND. "There are many prices for apricot trees, some people who like them can pay more than that price, but those who don't like them won't buy them even if they're 500 million VND. However, the price I want and offer is 100,000 USD, about 2.5 billion VND," Mr. Son said. Mr. Hoang Long (64 years old, Vice President of Hue Apricot Association) assessed that this is one of the valuable apricot trees, placed in the exhibition area of the Hue Apricot Festival in 2024. According to Mr. Long, this year the weather is favorable, so the works participating in the festival are of very high quality, exceeding the criteria, especially many bonsai trees are valued at 2 - 3 billion VND.
