Long An Club will participate in the First Division and the National Cup 2024-2025.
As Thanh Nien newspaper previously reported, Long An Club had sent a letter to the VFF and VPF announcing its withdrawal from the National First Division League for the 2024-2025 season, as Chairman Thang wanted to withdraw from football and return the team to the province.
But a surprise emerged when representatives of HAGL Club, along with their sponsor LPBank, attempted to connect with local football figures to rescue the team with the most impressive track record in the Western region.
Those efforts paid off when, on August 28, the leaders of Long An province agreed with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the plan to maintain the team in the professional league this season.
Coach Ngo Quang Sang will be giving more opportunities to young players next season.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thanh, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Long An province: "At the last minute, the provincial leadership successfully secured and agreed on a support plan from sponsoring organizations to enable Long An Club to continue participating in the professional league next season."
As Thanh Nien Newspaper previously reported, the participating parties have agreed on a plan for HAGL Club to provide personnel support to Long An Club, with the core being the young players who recently won the 2024 U.21 National Championship, along with financial guarantees from LPBank Chairman Nguyen Duc Thuy.
This can be seen as good news for one of the leading clubs in Western Vietnam football, as Long An FC has won two consecutive V-League championships (2005, 2006), been runner-up three times, won two First Division championships, one National Cup, two National Super Cups… and has produced many national team players.
Long An FC is considered the leading club in the Western region of Vietnam.
Reportedly, in addition to HAGL Club and its sponsor LPBank, the leaders of Long An province have also successfully mobilized several businesses to provide financial support so that the team, once considered the leading team in the Western region, can continue to compete in the professional league in the 2024-2025 season.
Reportedly, Mr. Thang is in the process of handing over the team to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Long An province, and has withdrawn all members of the leadership board, staff and employees of Long An Club to reassign them to other jobs within the corporation.
As soon as possible, coach Ngo Quang Sang and the coaching staff will rush to finalize the squad with a core of 10 old players, along with promoting young players from the U.21 Long An and U.21 HAGL teams, to become the 11th club to compete in the First Division in 2024-2025 instead of 12 teams as originally planned.
Recently, VPF announced the postponement of the draw and scheduling for the 2024-2025 First Division league. Now that Long An remains in the league, VPF will find it easier to arrange the schedule.
