On December 23 in Hanoi, the Industry and Trade Newspaper organized the Ministry of Industry and Trade Forum: Combating waste, unleashing development resources. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan attended and delivered the opening speech of the Forum.

In his opening speech, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan stated that during his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh always reminded cadres, party members and people to strive to practice thrift and fight waste. He considered waste to be more dangerous than corruption. Implementing his ideology, in recent years, the Party and State have issued many resolutions and directives on practicing thrift and fighting waste, and implemented and concretized these viewpoints through ordinances and laws on fighting waste. Thanks to the drastic participation of the entire political system and society, the work of thrift and fighting waste has achieved many positive results, contributing to saving resources for socio-economic development, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of the people.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan also informed that as a multi-sector economic ministry, the Party Executive Committee, leaders and civil servants of the Ministry of Industry and Trade not only closely follow and comply with the Central's instructions on economic development of the sector but also deeply understand the viewpoints of Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh's thought; the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on thrift and waste prevention; considering this a regular, continuous and extremely important task of the sector to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of direction and administration, contributing to creating resources for socio-economic development.

Every year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issues and effectively implements the Program on practicing saving and fighting waste. It directs units within the Ministry and enterprises in the sector to thoroughly grasp and implement it, while at the same time promoting communication to raise awareness of cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers in saving and fighting waste.
In particular, in 2024, under the close and drastic direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, the timely and effective coordination of the Central Committees, ministries, branches, agencies and localities, the Industry and Trade sector has proactively and actively implemented synchronously, drastically and effectively solutions according to assigned functions and tasks and achieved many positive and comprehensive results in all aspects of work.
Notably, it has created a breakthrough in the work of building and perfecting institutions and policies with a series of laws, decrees, and circulars being amended, supplemented, and newly issued, especially in the fields of energy and industry; restarting the Nuclear Power Development Program; removing difficulties for renewable energy projects; separating A0 from EVN to innovate the operation of the national power system and electricity market; resolving many backlog projects of the industry, helping to clear bottlenecks and avoid wasting social resources. At the same time, it has opened up opportunities to mobilize social investment resources.

Despite initial results, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has determined to continue promoting thrift practice and combating waste. Therefore, Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan expressed his hope that at this Forum, representatives of central ministries, branches, experts, associations and enterprises will continue to analyze and clarify the current situation, discuss difficulties and obstacles; share experiences in theory and practice; propose practical solutions to promote waste prevention, remove bottlenecks in mechanisms and policies, unblock resources, and create breakthrough development for the industry and trade sector in the new era - the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise.
Thereby, it contributes to thoroughly grasping and spreading the strong and innovative instructions and messages of the Party and General Secretary To Lam on anti-waste. At the same time, it helps the Ministry of Industry and Trade in particular and ministries, branches and localities in general to continue to perfect mechanisms and policies, improve efficiency in anti-waste work, contributing to the implementation of socio-economic development goals in the coming time.
Speaking at the Forum, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Hai Binh - Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Magazine emphasized that in the history of our country, any dynasty that knew how to save money developed and prospered; conversely, any dynasty that spent and wasted the people's strength declined.

Associate Professor Dr. Le Hai Binh affirmed that all countries practice waste prevention based on some fundamental factors. That is a strict legal corridor combined with modern technology in resource management, from education and raising people's awareness along with strong determination of the government. Developed countries have proven that waste prevention is not only an economic goal but also a social responsibility. Waste prevention is not only a technical issue but also a change in culture, concept and perception.
In the global context and the increase of resource and resource issues, waste has become a serious problem that many countries are trying to solve in the process of socio-economic development. Associate Professor, Dr. Le Hai Binh said that Vietnam is not out of that general trend.
At the Forum, delegates participated in discussions and analysis of issues related to the current situation, difficulties and obstacles, and proposed solutions to improve the effectiveness of waste prevention from institutions, administrative procedure reform, removing difficulties and obstacles in investment, use of public assets, use of human resources, and communication work to raise awareness and sense of responsibility of agencies, units, businesses and people.
