Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Xuan Bo Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative (Xuan Bo Cooperative), Xuan Thuy Commune, Tran Dinh Uynh, said that Xuan Bo Cooperative is the pioneer unit in Le Thuy District to implement the "two-crop" rice field. That is, in the field, after completing the winter-spring rice crop, farmers will grow the summer-autumn rice crop. This is a new and different point, because in most other localities in Le Thuy District, farmers are still in the habit of growing the regeneration rice crop.
It is known that for nearly 5 years, Xuan Bo Cooperative has implemented the model of abandoning the regeneration rice crop and planting the summer-autumn crop. Initially, the implementation encountered many difficulties due to the mindset of the people, in addition to the problem of rats and high risks. However, with solidarity, consensus, and clear thinking, farmers in Xuan Bo have boldly done it.
Because, growing summer-autumn rice helps increase total food output for the whole society; at the same time, it promotes the development of accompanying agricultural service industries, such as: Seed services, land preparation, fertilizer, plant protection, harvesting, increasing profits from cooperative service stages, creating jobs for farmers, promoting the circulation of goods...

“In the winter-spring crop this year, the cooperative planted more than 138 hectares of rice, with the main rice varieties being P6, VN20, Nhi Uu 838, Bac Thinh and some hybrid rice varieties. Currently, the rice is growing well. However, due to the adverse effects of the weather, recently, some rice fields in the cooperative have been infected with yellow leaf disease caused by bacteria and other harmful objects. To proactively prevent and control the disease, the cooperative staff regularly visited and inspected the fields; actively propagated through loudspeakers to members to care for and protect the rice; and at the same time instructed them on measures to prevent and control harmful pests and diseases…”, said the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Xuan Bo Cooperative.
An Thuy commune is implementing the 2024-2025 winter-spring rice crop production under conditions of many difficulties and challenges. This is also an area that is often affected by natural disasters. The flood in October 2024 alone damaged irrigation works, affecting traffic and serving the planting work, such as: Kien Giang 2-left dike, Hoi Quan dike, Thuong My Trung dike, Kenh Ca dike and some sluice gates surrounding the area. In addition, a cold spell appeared at the beginning of the season, causing difficulties in pumping and drainage; high prices of agricultural materials affected production, business and agricultural development activities, etc.
Vice Chairman of An Thuy Commune People's Committee Vo Truong An said that despite the above difficulties, the locality has proactively implemented winter-spring rice production on schedule, achieving results with a planting area of more than 1,223 hectares; at the same time, well implementing policies to support rat poison, support seeds and focusing on applying scientific and technical advances in seeds, investing in intensive farming...
The new feature in the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop in An Thuy commune is that the locality has focused on directing and guiding cooperatives to determine the structure and variety of varieties suitable for each land and crop; at the same time, promoting propaganda and mobilizing farmers to use certified varieties and new, technically advanced varieties with high productivity and quality in production.
“In fact, the whole commune has 20 basic varieties, including 4 main varieties: P6, Nhi Uu 838, MCH2, HG12. Each unit usually produces 5-7 varieties including experimental varieties. Currently, Loc Thuong unit has a contract to produce VN20 variety, testing HG12 variety on a large scale; Loc Ha unit implements a chain of production and consumption of Huong Binh rice varieties with Song Gianh Corporation Joint Stock Company…”, Vice Chairman of An Thuy Commune People's Committee shared.

Le Thuy district is considered the province's rice granary. In the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, the locality will plant nearly 10,100 hectares of rice, with an estimated total food output of about 96,000 tons. To ensure the winter-spring crop output meets the plan, the district has directed professional units and localities to guide people to plant rice according to the crop schedule; renovate and repair the irrigation canal system and irrigation water for production; at the same time, promote the application of technical advances and high technology in production; continue to expand the area of hybrid rice varieties, large fields, implement improved rice cultivation, proactively prevent and control pests and diseases...
Director of Le Thuy District Agricultural Service Center Hoang Van Hai said that to ensure the entire winter-spring rice area in the area grows and develops smoothly, the center has coordinated with communes and towns to strengthen propaganda work, guide farmers on the process and techniques of caring for and preventing rice pests and diseases; especially rice blast, brown leaf blight, rice leaf blight and other pests such as brown planthoppers, white-backed planthoppers, stem borers, rice leaf rollers, etc.
Currently, winter-spring rice in Le Thuy district is in the stage of standing panicles; early-sown rice is in the flowering stage. However, in recent times, the weather has been unfavorable, causing pests and diseases to appear. In the district, 132 hectares of rice are damaged by rats, 78 hectares are infected with bacterial leaf blight, 87 hectares are infected with brown planthoppers, 42 hectares are infected with rice blast, 3 hectares are infected with brown planthoppers and white-backed planthoppers, etc.
