New breakthrough
Amidst the difficulties and challenges caused by the general economic and political situation in the world, Binh Duong continues to determine that it must create a new development ladder through a planning vision from now until 2030 and orientation to 2050. Accordingly, Binh Duong must develop green, smart and sustainable. The province's outstanding policies and solutions are expected to continue to create vitality and strong growth of the province in the coming time. Binh Duong determines that it must focus resources on building modern infrastructure, improving the quality of goods, and bringing favorable solutions to businesses.
Recently, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Van Minh had a meeting with Vietnam Railway Corporation on the plan to increase the ability to export goods through Song Than International Transit Station. Accordingly, the two sides agreed that Song Than Station, located on National Highway 1A, bordering Binh Duong Province and Ho Chi Minh City, with the ability to connect with many provinces, will receive appropriate investment, creating new breakthroughs for the economy and freight transport.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tran Hieu, Director of Binh Duong Customs Department, transporting import and export goods by rail through Song Than Station has been creating great favorable conditions. In 2022, the station transported over 1.6 million tons of goods, mainly electronic equipment, automobiles, food, production materials, and products in industrial parks in Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and Ho Chi Minh City. "The total capacity of international intermodal transportation at Song Than Station reached 1.27 million tons/year, expected to reach 2.5 million tons/year by 2025. Due to the lack of international intermodal transportation, import and export goods transported at the station only account for about 10-15% of output. In addition, the lack of import and export procedures at the station has affected the time and cost of import and export activities," said Mr. Nguyen Tran Hieu.
Mr. Dang Sy Manh, Chairman of the Board of Members of Vietnam Railways Corporation, said that the Ministry of Transport is currently developing and submitting to the Government a plan to improve the capacity of international railway transport with 8 stations, in which Song Than Station is planned to become a key freight station in the South. Accordingly, the Corporation will form 2 railway lines: Song Than - Dong Dang, Song Than - Lao Cai. From here, goods traveling by rail from Binh Duong will connect with China and countries on the Asia - Europe railway transport route. Song Than Station has the advantage of being granted an intermodal code, and Binh Duong's early completion of the requirements on premises and security will further promote the effectiveness of international intermodal transport. In particular, the import-export procedures at the station will create great convenience for the province's import-export enterprises.
Based on the recommendations of Vietnam Railways Corporation, Mr. Vo Van Minh requested the Customs Department, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Department of Transport to promptly complete the requirements on premises and security, and implement import-export procedures at the station to reduce time and costs of transporting goods for businesses. Binh Duong will always create conditions for Vietnam Railways Corporation to clear the premises, focus on investment in renovation, improve customs clearance capacity, warehouse system... to effectively exploit and develop Song Than International Intermodal Station into a logistics center of the province and the entire Southeast region.
Regional development vision
Binh Duong has a great advantage in linking, creating regional advantages as a driving force for its future development. Recently, Binh Duong and Tay Ninh signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation in various fields. Regarding traffic and transportation, the two sides consulted and proposed to accelerate the implementation of regional traffic connection projects, implement contents related to the two localities in approved national sector plans; planning of road networks, inland waterway infrastructure; unifying the planning of two routes and bridges connecting from DT789 (Tay Ninh) to DT744 (Binh Duong).
The two sides will study and select investment in a connection project and start construction in the 2024-2025 period; propose and recommend relevant ministries and branches to speed up the implementation of the project to renovate, improve and upgrade the national inland waterway of the Saigon River to meet the standards of a level II waterway according to the planning; plan and announce the inland waterway on Dau Tieng Lake; invite businesses to study, survey and exploit the passenger transport route from Tay Ninh to Binh Duong and vice versa...
According to Mr. Pham Ngoc Thuan, General Director of Becamex IDC Corporation, in the field of investment, Becamex IDC researched and implemented investment in the Urban - Industrial - Service Area project in Tay Ninh province. Becamex IDC has proposed a number of projects to concretize the content of the agreement signed between the two localities such as developing the Phnom Penh - Tay Ninh - Binh Duong - Long Thanh - Cai Mep industrial corridor; Binh Duong - Tay Ninh industrial connection road; Bau Bang - Tay Ninh industrial railway, etc.
