This is one of the important contents of Project 8 "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children" under the National Target Program on socio -economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021 - 2030, Phase I: From 2021 - 2025 (National Target Program 1719).
In November and December, in 7 communes and towns in the Project 8 implementation area in Chu Puh district, more than 10 training conferences and communication campaigns were held, with nearly 700 delegates attending. The delegates were members of the Community Communication Team, village political system, Prestigious People, women's association members, men, children, etc.
At the media conference, delegates were provided with additional knowledge on preventing domestic violence, preventing violence and child abuse, skills to ensure safety and ways to prevent violence; preventing child marriage and incestuous marriage; and information on legal regulations on the Law on Gender Equality to ensure the rule of law in every family and society.
Previously, in Ia Le commune, the situation of child marriage was still "hot" with nearly 20 cases per year. Since the implementation of Project 8, through conferences and communication sessions on gender equality, changing thinking and working methods, and eliminating bad customs, people have gradually changed their awareness. Thereby, it has contributed to reducing the situation of child marriage and incestuous marriage. To date, the whole commune has reduced to 9 cases of child marriage.
Ms. Ro Mah Chik (Ia Bia village, Ia Le commune, Chu Puh district) shared: By participating in communication conferences, I have gained more knowledge about the law, and have recognized bad customs and risks that are harmful to women and children and need to be eliminated, such as early marriage, weddings and funerals that last for many days, domestic violence, child abuse, etc.
Since then, my family members and I have actively changed ourselves, learned good things, confidently demonstrated our abilities in economic development, and raised children to build a happy and prosperous family.
In addition, communication campaigns are also organized to help ethnic minority women gain more knowledge and skills to protect and prevent violence and abuse against women and children; promote prevention, detection, and timely handling of cases of violence and abuse against women and children, especially cases of violence occurring in the family, school and social environment.
In addition, ethnic minority women have more useful information and knowledge about safe motherhood and newborn care; thereby, they become active propagandists to promote women in the area to better access health care services and benefit from the State's policies on supporting women to give birth safely and take care of children.
Implementing Project 8 under the National Target Program 1719, up to now, Chu Puh district has organized 24 communication sessions on legal regulations related to child marriage, education to raise awareness of safe motherhood; gender equality, prevention of domestic violence; child health care and mobilizing women to give birth at medical facilities with thousands of participants; organized 8 communication and education sessions to raise awareness and mobilize women to give birth with 370 women participating. At the same time, organized training conferences to guide policy dialogue at the grassroots level; guided capacity improvement, skills, methods of operation and management of activities of the Community Communication Team.
Along with that, models promoting gender equality were established, including 12 community communication groups, 3 Trusted Addresses in the community, 3 Leaders of Change Clubs. The models have promoted positive effects in communication, mobilizing people to raise awareness of gender equality and gender stereotypes. Thereby, contributing significantly to changing the way of thinking and working in the community, creating conditions for ethnic minority women and children to develop comprehensively and equally.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, President of the Women's Union of Chu Puh district, Gia Lai province said: Through conferences and communication campaigns on gender equality under Project 8, awareness has been raised and mindsets and practices in the community have been changed and eliminated.
In the coming time, the Women's Union of Chu Puh district will continue to promote communication activities, mobilize to change "thinking and doing" to eliminate gender prejudices and stereotypes in families and communities; organize conferences to share experiences between models of eliminating gender prejudices. Thereby, contributing to the implementation of gender equality goals, solving urgent problems for women and children in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
