At the meeting, Mr. Vu The Phiet, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airports Corporation, said that Lien Khuong airport is currently showing signs of degradation and is in dire need of renovation and upgrading. The Corporation has also prepared a plan and is expected to close for repair and upgrading in the dry season of 2025.

Meanwhile, according to Mr. Ho Van Muoi, Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, in 2025, Lam Dong set a growth target of 8% and the interruption of Lien Khuong airport's operations will cause great difficulties, especially when some key national highways in the province are being repaired and upgraded, which will affect the province's traffic and economic development.

At the meeting, Lam Dong provincial leaders expressed concerns about the negative impact on the province's economic development if Lien Khuong airport had to close at the present time.

After the meeting, a representative of Vietnam Airports Corporation said that they will seek solutions to continue operating Lien Khuong airport until the end of 2025, expected to begin closing for repairs and upgrades in March 2026 and complete before the 2026 rainy season.

Previously, at the end of 2024, Vietnam Airports Corporation planned to repair Lien Khuong airport, to carry out the project, the airport would have to be closed for 6 months.

It is known that the last time Lien Khuong airport was renovated, expanded, and upgraded its taxiways and aircraft parking lots was in 2007. However, the asphalt concrete taxiways have degraded, affecting operational safety.

Lien Khuong Airport is located at an altitude of nearly 1,000m above sea level, in Duc Trong commune (Lam Dong province), with a runway 3,250m long and 45m wide, meeting the exploitation of Code D aircraft such as B757, A300 and equivalent or lower.

Currently, Lien Khuong airport receives 18 to 20 flights per day, and can serve up to 40 flights per day (equivalent to 8,000 passengers per day).
