The world coffee market had a volatile trading session on December 3. The price of Robusta coffee for January 2025 delivery on the London floor fell sharply by 10.63% compared to the previous session, to 4,834 USD/ton.

Similarly, the price of Arabica coffee on the New York floor also decreased by nearly 7% in the session on December 3, to 293.05 cents/lb for delivery in March 2025.

In the domestic market, the price of green coffee on December 3rd recorded the strongest fluctuation in history. By late afternoon, the price of coffee dropped by nearly 20,000 VND/kg, to 108,000-109,500 VND/kg depending on the region. That means 1 ton of green coffee "evaporated" nearly 20 million VND.

Previously, the price of green coffee beans in our country also had a period of sublimation and reached a historical peak of 134,000 VND/kg on April 29, then turned around and dropped dramatically. In just 3 trading sessions, the price of green coffee beans decreased by 24,000 VND/kg, reaching 110,000 VND/kg.

However, in the trading session on December 3, the price of green coffee fell by nearly 20,000 VND/kg - the sharpest drop ever. Accordingly, the phrases "shocking coffee price drop", "free-falling coffee price" or "plummeting coffee price" appeared on all social networking forums related to this type of bean.

Sharing with VietNamNet earlier, the leader of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA) said that Vietnamese farmers are playing an important role in maintaining high coffee prices thanks to their financial autonomy and ability to preserve coffee for a long time (can be stored for 1-2 years).

However, he also warned that the price of Vietnamese Robusta is too high, causing importers to complain. In the short term, they still need Vietnamese Robusta, because consumers are familiar with the taste. But if the high price persists, importers may change the formula, affecting exports.

According to him, a price of about 100,000 VND/kg will harmonize the interests of all parties and help Vietnamese coffee develop sustainably.

In fact, if coffee is sold at 100,000 VND/kg, minus costs, farmers still make a profit of 60,000 VND/kg - a very high profit for growers of this "bitter" bean.

Coffee prices are soaring again globally, Vietnamese farmers are making billions . Normally, during the harvest season, coffee prices cool down due to abundant supply. But this year, the beans have been increasing continuously, helping coffee growers in the Central Highlands make billions.
