On July 31, in his opening speech at the "Green Transformation and Recycling Day 2025" Forum, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc said that the city is facing a new context - a context that completely reshapes the meaning of the word "development". That context is created by four core elements. First, the increasingly extreme impacts of climate change are no longer a prediction but have become a reality. Second, the reshaping of global supply chains, where environmental, social and governance standards are becoming a mandatory "passport" to participate in the international arena.

Third, the fierce geopolitical and economic competition, where the competitiveness of a country or a city is not only measured by GRDP, but also by sustainable resilience and innovation. Fourth, the expanded space of the City with an industrial production center in Binh Duong and energy production in Ba Ria - Vung Tau needs to promote green transformation to increase competitiveness.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc, in that context, green transformation is not simply about protecting the environment. Green transformation is a strategy to ensure economic security, ensure investment attraction, attract export orders, a premise that plays a key role in improving competitiveness and maintaining the position of economic locomotive of Ho Chi Minh City.

From this perspective, the City must have a new mindset of action, not just individual projects, but strategic pieces for a more comprehensive overall picture.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee believes that businesses must be the pioneering force. The business community should consider compliance with environmental regulations and green standards not as a barrier, but as an opportunity to innovate products, conquer the market and enhance the brand. The City Government is committed to standing side by side with businesses on this journey; always considering businesses as a resource and a driving force for development.

"The new context poses unprecedented challenges but also opens up historic opportunities. This is an opportunity for the City to restructure its development strategy towards integrated greening, taking environmental quality and sustainable development, green growth as a measure of prosperity and sustainability. This journey requires the determination of the entire political system and the participation of the whole society, especially the pioneering role of innovation of the business community and residents of the City," emphasized Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc.

Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Huynh Thanh Dat said that green transformation is not only a trend of the times, but also a vital requirement to improve national competitiveness, meet international standards, ensure energy security and protect the living environment for future generations.

Enterprises participate in the Forum "Green Transformation and Recycling Day 2025"

In that journey, according to Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat, private enterprises are the pioneering force and the central pillar of innovation, making an important contribution to the prosperous and powerful development of the country. And for enterprises to be able to go fast, go far and go sustainably in the new era, the Party and State's mechanisms and policies on developing science, technology, innovation and digital transformation are the indispensable support foundation.

The "Green Transformation and Recycling Day 2025" Forum gathered nearly 500 delegates from central ministries, local authorities, businesses, international organizations, universities and the innovative start-up community for the environment. The Forum aims to connect, share and promote green transformation solutions in businesses and life, while aiming to develop a circular economy and increase recycling and reuse of resources. This event is part of Vietnam's efforts towards the goal of net zero emissions.

Within the framework of the forum, the "Activating Green Transformation" program awarded a 1 billion VND sponsorship package to 9 small and medium-sized enterprises with strong commitment, innovative spirit and aspiration for sustainable development. Each enterprise will receive a support package worth 120 million VND including awareness training, factory site survey, consulting on building quality standards (HACCP, ISO), greenhouse gas inventory reports, and especially support for certification costs for the first year.
