Transfer of UNESCO Creative City of Music responsibilities to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism

On October 31, 2023, Da Lat City officially became a member of UNESCO's global network of creative cities in the field of music . From November 2023 to present, Da Lat City has made efforts to continuously build and implement related contents.

Implement local initiatives committed to when joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network: Musical Heritage of the Future; Music Training and Linkage Programme; Building and Strengthening the City’s Network of Cultural and Creative Spaces; Activities to Encourage Musical Creation.

Implementing 3 international initiatives committed when joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network: Southeast Asian Gong Harmony; Sound of the Great Forest Program; LangBiang International Music Festival.

According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, after more than 1 year of joining the UNESCO Global Creative Cities Network in the field of music, the People's Committee of Da Lat City has made efforts, proactively and actively coordinated with relevant departments and branches to implement commitments to UNESCO.

The music space performed by artists for free early in the morning by Xuan Huong Lake, Da Lat City attracts many people and tourists.

Implementing the direction of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee on proposing a plan to transfer tasks belonging to UNESCO's creative music city, on May 23, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a working session with the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee and Da Lat City People's Committee, and at the same time sent a document asking for opinions from the Department of International Cooperation - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as well as the UNESCO Office in Vietnam.

Through working with relevant parties, departments, branches and localities unanimously supported the immediate plan to assign the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong to take over the tasks of the UNESCO Creative City of Music. After the organization and new administrative units are stabilized, it is possible to consider establishing an Executive Board including relevant members to directly receive and implement the tasks committed to UNESCO regarding the Creative City of Music. In addition, during the stabilization of the apparatus, it is recommended that the People's Committee of Da Lat City continue to closely follow the implementation of commitments to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
