Vu said he is the second son in a farming family in the difficult highland commune of Luu Kien. In the village, people often organize competitions in traditional sports such as stick pushing, tug of war, etc. during festivals, holidays, and Tet. At those times, Vu really liked seeing his uncles and brothers compete, but because he was too young, he was not allowed to participate.

In grade 2, Vu studied at Luu Kien Ethnic Boarding Secondary School in Tuong Duong district. Here, the Thai male student had the opportunity to practice and compete in these traditional sports. Due to his good health, Vu was selected by the school to practice pole pushing and tug of war to participate in the Phu Dong Sports Festival at the district level.

Thanks to his good health and technique, Nhat Vu represented the school in the pole pushing competition (weight class 41-44 kg) at the Phu Dong Sports Festival at the district level and won a Gold Medal.
