On the afternoon of August 17, at the discharge gate on Vo Nguyen Giap Street (An Hai Ward, Da Nang City), wastewater was recorded flowing directly into the sea, accompanied by a strong stench, even though the weather was completely dry at this time.
At T20 beach, residents said the wastewater began appearing on the night of August 16 and lasted until the next day, causing the coastal area to emit an unpleasant odor, seriously affecting business activities and the experience of tourists.

A nearby trader said that this pipe continuously discharged from August 16 to the evening of August 17. "When it rains, water rushes out into the sea, the stench is so strong, sometimes it is suffocating. We have reported it many times to the ward and the city hotline, but it has not been thoroughly resolved," said this trader.
According to some beach vendors, this pollution has caused many restaurants and shops along the beach to be deserted.
Black wastewater with foam floating from the sewer overflows into My Khe beach, giving off a strong stench.
"This afternoon, customers had to leave as soon as they sat down because the smell was too strong. Tourists who witness the wastewater flowing directly into the sea will not dare to come back. We have been doing business here for decades, and it is unbearable during the tourist season," said NVN, a salesman at Da Nang beach.

According to many people, the discharge usually only occurs during heavy rains, however, on the afternoon of August 17, the phenomenon still appeared in sunny conditions. "It rained a few days ago, but today it is sunny but the water is still flowing with a foul smell. Foreign tourists also shook their heads in dismay" - Mr. N. shared.

Not only stopping at one discharge point, according to the reflection, many other locations along the coast of Da Nang also appear similar situations. Every time it rains, the stench becomes stronger and the discharge becomes more obvious.
Earlier, on the afternoon of July 26, residents also reported the situation of wastewater overflowing into My An and My Khe beaches. Explaining the incident, the Da Nang City Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company said that the rainfall exceeded the design capacity. Although the station operated continuously, the system could not keep up with the flow, so it was forced to discharge into the environment to avoid flooding in residential areas.
According to the Da Nang City Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company, the Vo Nguyen Giap coastal area currently has two drainage systems: a semi-separate drainage system (in operation since 2007) and a separate My An - My Khe drainage system.
The semi-separate system consists of two pumping stations SPS3 and SPS4, responsible for collecting and transferring wastewater from the My Khe - My An area to the centralized treatment plant. The system is designed to collect effectively in the dry season, but in the rainy season, rainwater and wastewater mix, exceeding the overflow threshold and flowing into the environment.
