On November 21, a source from Dan Tri reporter said that in recent days, doctors at Binh Dan Hospital (HCMC) have been treating a patient with very serious health problems after escaping a scam ring in Cambodia.
"Hellish" days in Tam Thai Tu area
Previously, the Emergency Department of Binh Dan Hospital received patient NTN (22 years old, from An Giang province) in a state of septic shock, vomiting blood, and severe pain.
The patient underwent emergency surgery that night to save his life. During the surgery, doctors had to transfuse 3 units of blood and immediately drain the pus from his abdomen. The surgery then removed a handful of kidney stones, ureteral stones, and bladder stones from the patient's body. The largest stone was almost the size of a chicken egg.
This is the painful consequence of nearly a year of N. having to work in an online fraud syndicate in Cambodia.

Lying on a hospital bed after having just survived a near-death experience, N. told medical staff that she had lost her mother at the age of 5 months. She grew up in the Vietnam-Cambodia border area, did not go to school and did not have any identification papers.
In September 2024, because she wanted to earn money to raise her child, N. listened to a friend's invitation to go to Cambodia to "work on computers". Unexpectedly, she was taken to an online scam area called "Tam Thai Tu".
Every day, N.'s assigned task was to create fake accounts, connect and lure "prey" to initial interactions, so that other members could carry out fraudulent requests. If the task was not completed, N. was not allowed to leave his position, and was even forbidden to go to the toilet.
The prolonged holding of urine, combined with a poor diet and the fear of witnessing others being beaten, took a toll on the girl’s health. In early November, she began experiencing sharp pains in her hips, making it impossible to stand up straight.
Seeing N. swollen and seriously ill and unable to work, the managers kicked her out of the workplace. Afterwards, the girl was helped back to the border by the people, when her life was "hanging by a thread".
Sick body, no longer able to pay hospital fees
Initially, N. was taken to a hospital in An Giang province. However, due to his serious condition, he was transferred to Ho Chi Minh City that same night, when he had no money left to pay the hospital fees.
On the night of November 9, when arriving at Binh Dan Hospital, N. was unable to pay the hospital fee. The older sister who took her younger sister to the hospital burst into tears and told the doctor that after paying for the night bus, she only had 30,000 VND left in her pocket.

Faced with the patient’s plight, some medical staff at Binh Dan Hospital donated money to pay for the girl’s surgery. However, the cost continued to increase after more than 10 days of hospitalization.
Currently, the patient is conscious and has no fever, but is still facing kidney failure and needs intensive treatment. The biggest difficulty is that N. does not have identification papers or health insurance, making it difficult to access support funds.
"The patient's family worked for hire, making a living from meal to meal, and was completely exhausted after the ambulance trip from An Giang to Ho Chi Minh City.
At this time, N. really needs the community's support. The help from benefactors at this time is not only material, but also a lifebuoy to help N. have the opportunity to rebuild her life and take care of her young child," said a representative of Binh Dan Hospital.
