Campuestohan Highland Resort, a popular highland resort in Negros Occidental, Philippines, has just made its mark in the Guinness Book of World Records with its unique structure: the world’s largest rooster-shaped hotel, measuring 114 feet and 7 inches (about 35 meters) tall. The hotel attracts visitors not only with its unique design but also with its respect for local culture.
This building is also known as the " chicken hotel" because it has the shape of a giant rooster with a majestic and impressive posture, as if it is watching over the entire surrounding area. Ricardo Cano Gwapo Tan, the resort’s general manager, shared his inspiration for the project, expressing his desire to provide the public with a distinctive landmark that would enhance local pride. “I wanted to create a project that would truly leave a mark of admiration in the hearts of the public. The rooster represents calmness, majesty and strength, which is the spirit of the Negros Occidental people,” he said.
According to Mr. Gwapo Tan, the image of the rooster is not only symbolic but also closely linked to the traditional cockfighting culture in Negros Occidental. This is a major industry in the region, creating jobs for millions of Filipinos, especially when the sugar industry - the economic pillar of the province - faces difficulties. He added: "When the sugar industry faced difficulties and threatened our livelihood, it was the cockfighting industry that stepped up to compensate. The cock hotel is therefore also a tribute to this industry, with the hope that lovers of the cockfighting tradition will choose this place as an ideal stopover."
The chicken hotel includes 15 rooms equipped with air conditioning and modern amenities, giving visitors a unique experience. The project began construction on June 10, 2023 and was completed in September of the same year, not long before receiving the prestigious Guinness World Record certificate. The hotel promises to be a new destination, attracting not only tourists but also those who love local culture and are passionate about unique architecture.
