If anyone asks me what is the most special milestone in more than 20 years of journalism, I certainly will not hesitate to affirm that it was the first time I set foot on Truong Sa archipelago - a voyage that I never dared to dream of.
As a reporter for many years, I used to suffer from chronic motion sickness. Going to meetings, reporting, going to the office... wherever I went, I just "rode" my motorbike. The whole working group went to the district by car, I still followed behind by motorbike... As a reporter, I chose the "safe zone" of riding a motorbike to avoid fatigue.
But it was from persistent practice and change to avoid motion sickness that motivated me to break out, to prove that I could adapt and change in any situation. I practiced driving a car, practiced long-distance driving so that I was no longer afraid of cars. As a result, I dared to register to overcome the rough waves, with a journey of nearly 20 days to reach Truong Sa. Those were also the days when I witnessed many young officers and soldiers overcoming themselves, from the boys who were so seasick that they could not even scoop up a bowl of porridge to eat while on the ship, but were surprisingly strong and energetic when they arrived on the island to receive their mission.
I stepped out of my comfort zone from this transition.
Then the opportunity for change came when I joined Hai Duong Newspaper during a period of strong digital transformation.
Remembering the early days of working in multimedia journalism, being in charge of editing the online newspaper, working in print newspaper, posting on Hai Duong Newspaper's Fanpage, editing videos posted on YouTube of the newspaper... I was confused by the rapid changes. There were times when I wanted to give up, because it was difficult, because of hardship, because I could not keep up with the "lightning-fast" speed of working in online journalism. There were times when my colleagues and I had disagreements about whether to change or not to change...
But my pride and self-esteem forced me to adapt. So I learned and practiced doing things I had never done before…
Just study and work with colleagues day by day, then we will enjoy the sweet fruit. Hai Duong Newspaper Fanpage was granted a "blue tick" on June 1, 2022, one of the first 7 local Party newspapers to be granted a "blue tick". Hai Duong e-newspaper ranked 3rd among local Party newspapers nationwide in terms of visits in March 2025, with 3,811,000 views. Hai Duong Newspaper YouTube after more than 1 year of operation has attracted more than 14,350 followers...
Happy to have contributed my small efforts to the above achievements, I see more clearly the necessary value of adaptation and change.
