Van Don International Airport is a 4E-class international airport according to ICAO standards, put into operation since the end of 2018. The airport has modern facilities with a 3.6km long, 45m wide runway, qualified to take off and land the world's most advanced aircraft such as Boeing 787, 777 and Airbus A350, A320. The airport has 12 aircraft parking spots, including 3 Code E aircraft parking spots, 1 helicopter parking spot; 2 telescopic tubes serving passengers moving from the terminal to the plane. The air traffic control tower is located near the international terminal area, with a height of 42m, ensuring absolute safety in monitoring and coordinating aircraft arriving and departing on the ground and in the air.
Currently, Van Don International Airport operates the Van Don - Ho Chi Minh City route of two airlines, Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air. Since the beginning of the year, the airport has welcomed over 300 flights, with a total of over 40,500 passengers. In its operation plan, Sun PhuQuoc Airways plans to open ticket sales at the end of October this year. One of the routes it will operate is the Van Don - Phu Quoc route. In the long term, the airline will connect many new domestic and international routes to and from Van Don.

Not only that, the airport is located on the Ha Long - Van Don highway, so it is very convenient to travel. As a travel agency, I hope there will be more new flights to attract tourists to use the services here, thereby not only increasing the number of visitors to the airport but also benefiting local tourism.
In November 2024, the Minister of Transport signed Decision 1457/QD-BGTVT approving the task of planning Van Don International Airport for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. The goal of the planning is to arrange reasonable space to ensure the development of Van Don International Airport in accordance with the needs of air transport and orientation according to the Master Plan for the development of the national airport system for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050; propose a suitable investment roadmap.
Van Don International Airport continues to work with airlines to operate charter flights from Korea, China, and Japan to Van Don, creating a premise for operating regular international routes. The network of domestic flights to and from Van Don is also expected to resume to Da Nang and expand to Phu Quoc; gradually turning Van Don International Airport into a regional logistics center, a modern aviation gateway, attracting domestic and foreign tourists to Van Don, Quang Ninh.
