Vingroup shares hit the ceiling spectacularly, billionaire Vuong's assets hit a record high

(Dan Tri) - Strong profit-taking pressure caused the VN-Index to fall for the second consecutive session, breaking the 1,300-point mark. On the contrary, Vingroup's VIC stock increased to the ceiling, helping billionaire Vuong's assets increase sharply.

Closing the trading session on May 19, VN-Index continued to decrease by 5.1 points, equivalent to 0.39%, to 1,296 points. VN30-Index also decreased by 4.69 points; HNX-Index decreased by 1.45 points, while UPCoM-Index increased slightly by 0.21 points.

Of which, VIC and VHM are the two stocks that positively affect the index. Following them are VPB, KBC, CII, GEE, TCB...

Notably, Vingroup 's VIC stock has increased to the ceiling price of VND85,600/share with more than 9,100 units traded. Buyers have more than 2.2 million units waiting at the ceiling price but there are no sellers.

The strong increase in VIC shares has helped billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong's assets skyrocket. According to Forbes, as of the afternoon of May 19, billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong's assets skyrocketed by 456 million USD to 9.7 billion USD, ranking 300th on the list of the world's richest people.

Banking stocks were under the strongest profit-taking pressure. LPB had the strongest correction, down 3.8%, while other stocks such as STB, VIB , TPB, BID also recorded a decrease of 1-2%. Only a few stocks such as VPB, CTG, HDB, TCB managed to reverse from decrease to increase in the last minutes, but the increase amplitude was all below 1%.

The total value of matched orders in the market was over 19,600 billion VND. Red dominated the board with 214 stocks decreasing, 2 stocks hitting the floor, 104 stocks increasing, 6 stocks hitting the ceiling, and 42 stocks keeping the reference price.

Foreign investors net sold 562 billion VND today. VIC was the focus of foreign investors' buying when it was collected 170 billion VND, followed by MBB with 148 billion VND and CTG with 84 billion VND. On the contrary, foreign investors today strongly sold GEX and MSN stocks.
