Van de Beek's career has been constantly plagued by injuries. |
After receiving medical attention, the Dutch midfielder had to limp off the field, leaving doubts about his already fragile condition.
Van de Beek, who now plays for Girona, had surgery on his heel and Achilles tendon in May, leaving him out for more than four months. But before he could fully return, he is now facing the risk of a long-term absence. Girona coach Michel said after the draw: “We don’t know the details yet, but things don’t look good. Today’s result is for him.”
Van de Beek's career has been repeatedly hampered by injuries: in 2023 he missed nearly half a year due to a knee problem, in 2022 he lost more than 50 days due to a muscle problem, and last season he missed the final stages due to a heel problem. As a result, in the last two seasons at Manchester United, including when he was loaned to Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt, he did not make more than 12 appearances per season.
At 28, Van de Beek faces a life-or-death challenge: regaining the form that made his name at Ajax, where he was a golden link alongside De Jong, De Ligt, Neres and Blind. But with a never-ending string of injuries, that prospect is increasingly remote.
