Candidates need to relieve stress before taking the 10th grade exam.
"SOS signal" needs to be released by the candidate
"More than 96,000 candidates must be feeling a lot of pressure with only 3 days (72 hours) left until the 10th grade exam. They may be feeling overloaded with the huge amount of knowledge they have to memorize, a feeling of 'overwhelm', leading to an inability to concentrate, not being able to remember and 'losing' knowledge," said Mr. Do Duc Anh, a teacher at Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).
The teacher nicknamed "hotboy" made the above comment because he has a lot of experience guiding students to review for the 10th grade exam, and often receives "SOS signals" from students before the exam day.
Especially with literature, memorizing many long citations becomes extremely difficult.
Therefore, Mr. Duc Anh believes that candidates need to be relieved so that they are no longer worried, nervous, insecure, have insomnia, and some even have the mentality of "giving up" before the exam.
To do this, according to Mr. Duc Anh, there are some secrets needed.
First, Mr. Duc Anh advised students to implement the "memorization learning solution" instead of rote learning or memorization.
"Hold a pen and circle keywords, underline main ideas, highlight important content, draw mind maps, and learn your lessons logically. The coding-style learning solution makes learning the fastest and shortest. When applied to literature, which has dozens of works, students will no longer feel overwhelmed," said Mr. Duc Anh.
Grade 9 students of Ly Thanh Tong Secondary School (District 8, Ho Chi Minh City) on the last day (June 2) of reviewing at school to prepare for the grade 10 exam early next week.
In addition, literature teachers advise students to avoid memorizing every word and sentence in the outline. Mr. Duc Anh noted: "Learn to understand, comprehend, empathize, and express yourself in your own words. Never learn by rote because this way of learning makes students not remember deeply, not understand the lesson, and forget quickly. If students learn by rote, they only need to forget one detail to not remember the entire lesson, and forget all the remaining details."
For knowledge that is not yet understood, or things that are still uncertain, students should immediately ask the teacher for further explanation. In addition, students can do the exercises, then ask the teacher, friends, or relatives to correct the things that are not right in their work.
Teachers at Bui Thi Xuan High School believe that emotions are extremely important during this period. If you feel unwell or unhappy, stop studying and move to a more comfortable time and do what you want most at that time to relieve stress. However, when time is running out, students should quickly regain emotional balance and study when they are truly happy.
Teacher Do Duc Anh gives advice to candidates and parents before the exam
What parents should do
According to Mr. Duc Anh, to help candidates relieve pressure and stress in the days leading up to the exam, parents need to be with their children and should do the following:
- Choose a quiet, peaceful space for your child. Specifically, parents can choose a private space with their children, a comfortable, quiet space, absolutely focused, not affected by external factors when studying. Outside of study time, parents can go for a walk in the park with their children, chat to help them relax...
- Let's work together to organize the study corner, neat and tidy to inspire learning. Don't forget to take care of yourself. Sometimes, small actions like brushing your child's hair or giving them a glass of water to help them replenish their energy are also important spiritual medicine, without necessarily doing something big.
- Always remind your child to go to bed early and wake up early to have a fresh mind for the brain to function best and memorize knowledge quickly.
Above all, Mr. Duc Anh said: "Now is not the time to discuss too much, parents should be a support, helping their children have the most comfortable review time. However, the most important thing is not to put too much expectation on their children. Parents need to encourage their children that, no matter what the result is, as long as they try hard, even the smallest ray of light will always shine. Always hold hands and hug your children in any situation, because they have tried their best."
