On October 20, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management organized a workshop to announce and train the use of the National Management System on medical practice and examination and treatment activities for 19 Departments of Health (from Quang Tri and up) and hospitals and institutes with beds under the Ministry of Health (North Central and Northern regions).
According to Dr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management of the Ministry of Health, previously the management of practitioners and medical examination and treatment facilities was mainly scattered across many focal points, the update process was manual, and data standards were not unified.
Tracking changes such as changes in workplaces, scope of practice, technical categories, equipment, medical oxygen, etc. is difficult, leading to a lack of an overall view and limitations in exploiting real-time data for operations, inspections, and ensuring professional quality.
Currently, the country has more than 850,000 practitioners, more than 70,000 medical examination and treatment facilities, including 1,700 public hospitals, 406 private hospitals, and tens of thousands of private clinics.

On October 20 in Hanoi , the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management organized a workshop to announce and train on the use of the National Management System on medical practice and examination and treatment activities (KBCB) for 19 Departments of Health (from Quang Tri and up) and hospitals and institutes with beds under the Ministry of Health (North Central and Northern regions).
Therefore, the establishment of the National Management System for medical practice and examination and treatment activities is considered a breakthrough in standardizing databases, improving the quality of administration and response capacity of the health sector.
This system is deployed on the basis of the policies and tasks of the Government and the Ministry of Health on digital transformation, and is part of the Project "Enhancing the use of medical oxygen and the respiratory care ecosystem in Vietnam" by the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management in coordination with the Department of Infrastructure and Medical Equipment and PATH organization.
In parallel with this system, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management is gradually deploying electronic health records, collecting databases of practitioners, medical examination and treatment facilities and implementing electronic medical records. To date, the Department has issued more than 100,000 shared lists and 2,960 paraclinical lists to serve the implementation of electronic medical records.
To ensure the system operates effectively, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management will organize training and provide technical support to the Departments of Health in updating information on practitioners and medical examination and treatment facilities. At the same time, the Department will coordinate with the National Health Information Center and the Ministry of Public Security to ensure infrastructure, safety and security of the system.
According to the plan, each Department of Health is given an administrative account to monitor facilities and practitioners within the locality; each medical examination and treatment facility has an organizational account, with a unique GLN identification code used uniformly nationwide. Each practitioner is given a personal account associated with a personal identification, and is responsible for updating information accurately and honestly.

Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hung, Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Department of Health, shared that the Department is currently facing many difficulties in data management when having to monitor 43 hospitals, 5,000 private clinics and 10,000 pharmacies.
Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hung hopes that when implementing the national management system for medical practice and examination and treatment activities, the Department of Health will be able to manage and have full information and data on practitioners and medical examination and treatment facilities to support effective state management, improve the quality of medical services and digital transformation.
This week, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment will conduct a similar training course for the remaining 15 Departments of Health of the provinces/cities in Ho Chi Minh City and hospitals under the Ministry of Health and some hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City.
Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are the two localities with the largest number of hospitals and practitioners in the country. It is expected that basic information on medical examination and treatment facilities and practitioners will be updated before November 30, 2025.
