Fast food and carbonated drinks

Although this is a fairly popular "food duo", it is also one of the unhealthy combinations for the intestines, according to the Times Of India (India).

Dr. Shubham Vatsya, MD, Fortis Hospital (India), said that fast food is often high in refined fats, starches, and preservatives, which cause indigestion. Consuming fast food with cold carbonated soft drinks can further aggravate the problem, which can lead to bloating, indigestion, heartburn, and in some cases, acid reflux. Over time, this combination can also disrupt the gut microbiome and impair digestion.

Eating fish and drinking milk together is not harmful to everyone, but this combination is not recommended in traditional medical systems.

The problem is that these two protein sources are digested differently. Fish is a “light” food and breaks down quickly, while milk is “heavy” and digests more slowly. When eaten together, both can stay in the gut longer than necessary, causing bloating, indigestion, or even reactions such as itching, hives, sneezing, watery eyes, etc. (similar to a histamine reaction).

Eat fruit right after main meals

Fruit is certainly a healthy and easily digestible choice when eaten on its own, but sometimes eating fruit after a large meal can be counterproductive.

Fruits are digested much more quickly than proteins, fats, and complex carbohydrates (starches). When consumed immediately after the main course, they tend to ferment in the gut while the rest of the food is digested. This fermentation process can cause bloating or stomach upset.

For best digestion, fruit should be eaten alone on an empty stomach, about 30 minutes before meals.

Inappropriate food combinations can cause digestive disorders and affect long-term intestinal health. Actively avoiding the above harmful combinations and adjusting the structure of meals in a simple but reasonable way will help the digestive system work more effectively, improve energy levels, immunity and overall health.
