Feature to create videos from original documents on NotebookLM. |
Google has just announced a series of new features for NotebookLM, an AI software that helps synthesize and summarize documents in many different formats. Users can provide original documents and then ask the tool to analyze, summarize, answer questions, brainstorm ideas, or convert content into podcasts.
According to Google statistics, Vietnam is in the top 10 countries/territories using NotebookLM the most globally, along with India, Japan, the US...
Although NotebookLM’s public notebook feature was only launched in June, it has already recorded over 140,000 shares. In the Asia- Pacific region, popular public notebooks come from Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Japan, covering a wide range of topics.
Convert documents to video
NotebookLM's first new feature is called Video Overviews. First announced at I/O 2025, this mode allows document content to be converted to video, helping to grasp information quickly and more easily.
According to Google, Video Overviews is a “visual alternative” to Audio Overviews, a podcast feature created with AI guests. Instead of reciting the entire content of the original document mechanically, NotebookLM will summarize the main points of the document, presented as an interview between two people to increase interactivity.
NotebookLM supports importing text documents, websites or YouTube videos (up to 50 sources). After providing the documents, in the Studio screen on the right, click Video Overview and wait a few minutes, the tool will convert the content into video.

Currently, the content created by Video Overviews takes the form of presentation slides with illustrations, diagrams, quotes, and figures extracted directly from the document. For longer content, the new feature can explain data, summarize processes, and visualize some complex concepts.
NotebookLM videos vary in length depending on the amount of content included, with an average creation time of 5-10 minutes. Videos open with a title, question mark, and key quote, followed by the content in large chunks. Important concepts are highlighted, and there’s even a timeline for historical content.
In addition to images, the video also has a voiceover. Similar to Audio Overviews, the voice in the video has a clear and natural tone, not too stiff or robotic like most other AI tools.
The design, layout, and fonts in the video follow Google's general standards. All videos have the NotebookLM logo to identify AI-generated content.

NotebookLM's presentation layout is based on user-provided document content. |
Video Overviews users can tap the Menu button in the upper right corner to enter additional requests, such as content to focus on, clarify goals, describe the video's audience, video structure, etc.
In addition to converting content to video, users can still ask analytical questions about the original material in the text interaction between the screens.
Video Overviews on NotebookLM are currently only available in English. Google says it will add more languages and video formats in the future. The free version of NotebookLM is limited to the number of times you can use it per day. If you want to create more videos, you’ll need to purchase plans like Google AI Pro (starting at $24/month).
Refer to information, in-depth research
The NotebookLM update also changes the Studio interface, the area on the right side of the screen to choose the summary format. Currently, Studio supports 4 formats including video, audio (podcast), mind map and text document.
In the new version, Studio allows you to create and store multiple versions of a summary format. For example, you can create multiple language versions of Audio Overviews, which is great for sharing your notebook with a community.
If you create a notebook for a study group, you can create multiple videos and podcasts related to the content of each specific role. During exam preparation, you can ask NotebookLM to create mind maps and summary videos, each focusing on different lesson content.
The Studio interface is also more intuitive with a content creation button at the top, content appearing in a list below, and multiple items can be created and viewed at once. According to Google, the new Studio interface will be widely released in the coming weeks.

Users can interact with the notebook through NotebookLM features such as reading original documents, asking questions, listening to audio/video summaries, reading pre-made text or mind maps (if available).
According to Google, NotebookLM's new features “make it more intuitive and convenient than ever to dig deeper into a wide range of topics.”
