It Noc village has many houses collapsed and severely damaged due to floods.

In recent days, Trieu Van Nguyen’s family has been supported by relatives and villagers to clean up the rubble left after the flood. Carefully removing each tile and piece of wood, he silently looked at the empty ground – where the small house that has been with his family for over 10 years is now a mess of broken tiles and damaged wood.

Mr. Nguyen sadly recounted: The rain started the day before, and on September 29th it poured down all day long. The floodwaters rose very quickly. I only had time to call my family members to run to my brother’s house for temporary shelter. In the afternoon, when the rain had stopped, I returned and found nothing left – the house had collapsed, 60 bags of freshly harvested rice and all the belongings were swept away by the water.

"Now the whole family has to stay temporarily in the village cultural house" - Mr. Nguyen said sadly.

Not only Mr. Nguyen's family, but also many other households in It Noc are facing difficult lives. At the temporary shelter built on land borrowed from villagers, Ms. Phung Thi Nhin, her husband and two children are still in shock after their solid house leaning against the hill was destroyed by a landslide, burying all their belongings.

“The house collapsed, burying all our belongings. Now my whole family has to stay in a temporary shelter. When it rains, water floods in and we have to stay overnight. We just hope that the local authorities will soon help us find a stable place to rebuild our house and live in peace,” Ms. Nhin sadly shared.

There were three families with 13 members living in this temporary shelter. Ms. Ban Thi Suu's family also had their house collapsed and lost all their belongings. On the day of the flood, the whole family had to run to the school to take refuge. When they returned, the house had been swept away by the flood and many areas of rice fields were also buried.

In the temporary shelter, households help each other, share meals, and overcome difficulties and worries about the future.

In times of difficulty and adversity, the spirit of solidarity and mutual love of the people of It Noc village is even more clearly demonstrated.

Mr. Ban Huu Truu, a villager, was ready to lend his land to the households affected by the landslides, where corn was in the earing stage, to build temporary shelters. Not only did he lend the land, he also went with the villagers to cut bamboo and help build shelters so that everyone would have a safe place to live after the natural disaster.

“Natural disasters are unpredictable. Seeing that the villagers have no place to live, I am willing to lend them land to build a shelter, for as long as they want. I just hope to help them ease their hardships,” said Mr. Ban Huu Truu.

The impact of the flood has caused severe damage to the lives of the people in It Noc village. The traffic route leading to the village was eroded at many points, completely cut off, causing difficulties for relief and transportation. In that situation, the Van Ban commune government, along with the police, militia, and medical forces, urgently went to the isolated area to support people to overcome the consequences.

According to statistics, in It Noc village, there are 121 households, of which 7 households had their houses completely collapsed, 45 households lost 50-70% of their assets; the entire crop area was flooded and damaged, and the aquaculture area was completely lost.

Faced with the severe damage caused by natural disasters, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Van Ban commune has launched a call for organizations, individuals, and philanthropists inside and outside the locality to join hands to support people to overcome difficulties.

In just a short time, the commune received hundreds of gifts, necessities and money to rent machinery and vehicles to level rocks and soil, fix landslides, clear roads into the village, creating conditions for travel and transporting relief goods.

At the same time, the commune has supported materials and mobilized human resources to build bamboo and rattan shelters covered with tarpaulin for households that lost their homes, ensuring immediate living safety.

The biggest difficulty currently facing It Noc village is the steep mountainous terrain, with many areas at high risk of landslides, while the flat land fund is limited. In particular, the ground is mainly sandy soil, which is easily permeable and eroded during heavy rains, making the arrangement of new housing for households even more difficult.

Transport infrastructure was severely damaged after the floods, many houses are located in areas at high risk of landslides.

Faced with that situation, Van Ban commune has directed village officials to coordinate with the Party cell secretary and village chief to regularly monitor weather developments, promptly propagate, mobilize and support the evacuation of people when there is heavy rain, to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Ha, Vice Chairman of Van Ban Commune People's Committee, said: "The commune has reviewed and assessed the level of landslides in residential areas. For now, we will arrange for people to stay temporarily in safe shelters or at the village cultural house. The commune is proposing that the province arrange suitable interspersed land funds for people to stabilize their lives in the long term."

Although life is difficult and lacking in all aspects, the government's care and the spirit of mutual support and sharing in the community are the motivation for the people of It Noc to gradually overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives. We believe that new houses will be built and the lives of the people here will gradually return to their original peace.
