Ahead of the match against Pachuca in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™, Courtois made statements about his future at Real Madrid. He said: “I hope to extend my contract. I am very happy at Real Madrid, playing here is a dream, and every year is a different dream. I am always ready to serve the club, they know I want to stay here, and I hope to retire here.”
After an anterior cruciate ligament injury that seemed to jeopardize his entire 2023/24 season, Courtois returned and immediately proved his worth to Real Madrid. Spanish media reported that Real are willing to break with tradition by offering a two-year contract extension, keeping Courtois until 2028 – when he will be 36 years old.
Since arriving in Madrid in 2018, Courtois has played 282 games and won every club title a goalkeeper could dream of. He has been a reliable last line of defense under Carlo Ancelotti and currently under Xabi Alonso.
When asked about the current Real Madrid squad needing time to adapt under Xabi Alonso, Courtois said: “We’ve been training for a week and are gradually getting closer to what the coach wants. We watch videos , have meetings and are ready to experiment and make mistakes. Xabi has said that we have to go out there to win, give our all and expect good results.”
Real Madrid and Al Hilal are currently second in Group H with 1 point each, 2 points behind leaders Salzburg. In the early hours of June 23rd, Alonso's team will face Pachuca.
