Train driver's extraordinary braking in front of 2 women posing on the tracks

Việt NamViệt Nam17/03/2025

On March 12, at the Huong Lai - Vinh Yen section ( Vinh Phuc ), train 3206 was approaching km54 when two women calmly walked on the tracks to take pictures, despite the train driver having to brake suddenly and blow the horn continuously. This was a dangerous situation because when the train was moving, it was difficult to make an emergency stop.

The above mentioned train was carrying goods with 25 carriages (including the locomotive) moving along the route from Tien Kien station (Phu Tho) to Yen Vien station ( Hanoi ). The main driver was Mr. Le Ngoc Anh (43 years old), from Hanoi Locomotive Enterprise.

Mr. Le Ngoc Anh said that he has nearly 20 years of experience driving trains with thousands of trips on railway routes from North to South. Although he has encountered many situations and cases of poor awareness, causing railway traffic safety problems, this is the first time he has witnessed a situation where people pose recklessly in front of a moving train to take a "virtual life" photo.

At that time, the train was moving at 40km/h, from a distance of more than 200m, he discovered 2 people standing on the tracks so he continuously blew the whistle and slowed down. The above situation forced Mr. Ngoc Anh to use extraordinary braking (braking the train to a complete stop). When the train slowed down and was about to stop, only 10m away from the 2 women, the 2 people ran off the tracks.

Suppose the train driver did not stop the train in time, what would happen to the woman's life? Or if the train driver reacted in time but braked suddenly, causing the train to derail and capsize, what would be the consequences? If the freight train was replaced by a passenger train, how many lives would be at risk? Would these two women be able to bear the loss?

This is not the first case and certainly not the last case of “posing” on the railway tracks to take photos. Therefore, it is necessary to strongly condemn and have appropriate punishment to deter the continued violation of railway traffic safety. An expensive lesson for no one to have the intention of disregarding the law and playing with death.

Driver Ngoc Anh shared that railway traffic seems wide but in reality it is very complicated, easily encountering unexpected situations that force him to brake extraordinarily. In many years of working as a train driver, he has had to use extraordinarily fast brakes a few times, but the last time was 5-6 years ago.

"Such a situation is beyond the control of train drivers like us. Fortunately, no unfortunate incidents have occurred. After the incident, I reported to the front and rear guards to ensure safety for the train to continue its journey and arrive at Yen Vien station," said Mr. Ngoc Anh.

It is known that driver Le Ngoc Anh is the Team Leader of Engine Unit 947, Train Driving Team 10, Locomotive Operation Workshop 1, Hanoi Locomotive Enterprise Branch. With nearly 20 years of experience in the train driving profession, Mr. Ngoc Anh has achieved the second ATCT master title (in 2024) with 350,000 safe km. For two consecutive years (2023 and 2024), he has achieved the title of grassroots emulation soldier. Both train driver Ngoc Anh's father and mother are employees of Hanoi Locomotive Enterprise and are now retired.
