On January 17-18, in Kampala, Uganda, a preparatory ministerial meeting for the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement took place with the theme "Deepening cooperation for global prosperity".

The meeting was attended by nearly 80 delegations from member countries of the Non-Aligned Movement, along with many countries and regional and international organizations that are observers of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The Vietnamese delegation led by Ambassador, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations Dang Hoang Giang made many positive contributions that were recognized by the conference and included in the document.

The meeting completed negotiations on the final draft document to be submitted to the leaders for approval at this summit. This is a comprehensive document, addressing many important global and regional issues, including the East Sea issue.

The document clearly stated and acknowledged the results of the recent Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers' Meetings on the East Sea, especially the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in July 2023, and called on all parties to exercise restraint and resolve all sovereignty and territorial disputes in the East Sea by peaceful means, without resorting to force or threatening to use force.

The document also emphasizes the member countries' commitment to multilateralism and upholding compliance with and promoting the implementation of international law and the United Nations Charter; the urgent need to reform the multilateral system in the new international context with the emergence of many non-traditional security challenges, especially reforming the United Nations and the international economic system as well as the working methods of the Non-Aligned Movement to further promote its role and voice in global processes for peace, security and sustainable development.

The document also reflects deep concern about the deteriorating situation in Palestine and in particular the severe humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

The 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement will take place on January 19 and 20, also in Kampala, Uganda. The Vietnamese delegation led by VicePresident Vo Thi Anh Xuan will attend the conference.
