The two main characters in the movie.
The male lead of “Marry a Ghost to Solve Your Bad Luck” is Menn (Billkin), not a diligent police officer like the original character Ngo Minh Han, but a petty thief used by the police as an informant. Policewoman Jekoi - who is also Menn’s dream girl - promises to help him become a police trainee if he helps solve the case. However, because of his hasty and subjective nature, every case Menn participates in fails.
Until one day, Menn picked up a red envelope, leading to being "forced to marry" the ghost of a gay guy Titi (PP Krit) who suddenly died after being hit by a car. From here, the film's plot draws the audience in following Menn - a homophobic guy - and Titi's ghost through a series of interwoven plots between humor, detective, action and twists from related characters such as policewoman Jekoi, Titi's boyfriend... All of which make the audience unable to take their eyes off the screen because of the unique humorous situations, mixed in a dramatic way with surprises about the driver who caused Titi's death and the drug ring that the police thought they could break but failed at the last minute.
During that short journey together, Menn and Titi, with their differences and conflicts, as they searched for the reason why Titi's ghost could not be released, gradually realized their own shortcomings, learned to sympathize and gradually resolved the knots in life...
It can be said that “Marrying a Ghost to Solve Bad Luck” follows the main plot of the original, but still creates a different atmosphere. For many viewers, “The Story of Me and the Devil Becoming a Family” is mature and has many profound moments; while the Thai version is more entertaining. The humorous details in “Marrying a Ghost to Solve Bad Luck” are highlighted, unleashed with continuous plots in the style of Thai comedy films. The supporting characters are also explored to convey many messages. The detail that the character Menn is not a real police officer like the character Minh Han in the original also makes it reasonable for Menn to easily let go of prejudice.
Finally, the highlight of the film is that after many details that bring laughter and surprises to the audience, the film brings tears to the viewers when Titi's ghost witnesses his father awkwardly expressing to Menn his pain when Titi died, his worries and how he gradually accepts his son's differences. And when he knows that his father always loves him, Titi is liberated...
Another advantage of the film when it was released in our country is that it has a pretty good Vietnamese dub, from the intonation of the voice actors, to the dialogue, the familiar and “trendy” use of words. The film has earned 20 billion VND after 4 days of official release in Vietnamese theaters.
