Old stories, old stories
In the book of the legend of the Lady of Salt Palace, copied by scholar Nguyen Binh and scribe Nguyen Hien from the Le Canh Hung period, more than 300 years ago, it is recorded that: Lady of Salt, surname Nguyen, given name Nguyet Anh, was born in the year Canh Thin 1280. She was the beloved daughter of the poor salt-farmer couple Nguyen Hien - Phung Thi Mau in Tam Dong, Quang Lang village, Thuy Van district, Thai Binh prefecture. Now, Quang Lang belongs to Thuy Hai commune, Thai Thuy district, Thai Binh.
According to legend, Lady Nguyet Anh was an extremely beautiful, gentle, and pure woman. Every step she took was covered by clouds above her head. One time, she sailed back to the capital to replace her parents who sold salt. The guards saw that the beautiful girl who sold salt always had clouds covering her head, so they reported the strange incident to the king. King Tran Anh Tong immediately summoned Nguyet Anh to the palace. After that, the king made Nguyet Anh his concubine and especially favored her.
Feeling that she was having difficulty giving birth, Nguyet Anh became depressed. Sharing the feelings of his beloved concubine, the king allowed her to return to her hometown to live with her family and granted her land to establish a palace. Nguyet Anh brought back to her hometown many jewels that the king had given her. She used that gold and silver to help the people of Tam Dong village expand the salt industry. Nguyet Anh was given the title of Lady of Salt. She lived with her parents for a while, then fell ill and passed away on the 14th day of the 4th lunar month, Mau Tuat year - 1298. At that time, Nguyet Anh was just 18 years old.
Feeling sorry for Nguyet Anh, King Tran Anh Tong immediately ordered the Ministry of Rites to Quang Lang to hold a funeral for her. The King also ordered the Ministry of Public Works to build a tomb and temple and issued a decree: "First posthumously awarded Tu Y Thai Hoa De Tam Cung Phi Linh Ung Ton Than!"; and ordered Quang Lang to burn incense to worship "Ba Chua Muoi".
