Former 2NE1 member reveals the truth about relationships between Kpop artists

Allkpop reported that Dara recently appeared as a special guest on the 12th episode of Kim Jaejoong's YouTube talk show "Jaefriends."

Here, the two artists revealed the hidden corners behind the relationships of artists in the Kpop entertainment industry, especially artists from two famous entertainment companies, SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment.

Dara was a member of the famous girl group 2NE1, under the entertainment company YG Entertainment.

Kim Jaejoong was a member of the boy band TVXQ, under SM Entertainment. During the show, Kim Jaejoong said that he and Dara met through a movie. In addition, artists from the two entertainment companies YG and SM do not actually know each other.

“Everyone is territorial, like ‘we are YG’ and ‘we are SM’,” Jaejoong said.

According to Dara, that is also the reason why idols from the two entertainment companies cannot say they are friends. "If we pass each other, we will think carefully about whether to say hello or not," she shared, adding that she is currently close to many SM artists.

Also in the past, she and artists from other entertainment companies could not be too close because they always competed with each other on music charts.

"We don't hate each other, but we can't like each other either. Because Girls' Generation (SM Entertainment's girl group) is always our rival," Dara revealed.

YG artists and SM artists cannot be close to each other because they are direct competitors.

The female artist confided that she and the members of the former 2NE1 group often felt pressured because they were often compared to SM artists.

Specifically, at their peak, 2NE1 was a famous group, receiving many music awards. On stage receiving awards, the members were all happy but usually never cried out of happiness.

Meanwhile, SM artists shed tears when they went on stage to receive awards. This caused 2NE1 to be scolded by the audience and the company. Although they were in direct competition with each other, she herself always wished to release many music products like SM artists.

Dara was born in 1984. She debuted in Korea in 2009 as a member of the K-pop girl group 2NE1, managed by YG Entertainment. 2NE1 is one of the most famous 2nd generation K-pop girl groups in Korea, with 4 members including Dara, Park Bom, Minzy and CL.

2NE1 is known as the "female version of Big Bang", owning many hits such as "Lonely", "I Am the Best", "I Love You", "Come Back Home", "fire"... The group was active since 2009 and disbanded in 2016.
