On June 17, at the discussion session on the socio -economic situation, many National Assembly deputies expressed concern about the increase in counterfeit, fake and poor quality goods.

Delegate To Van Tam ( Kon Tum delegation) said that in 2024, 47,000 cases of counterfeit, fake and poor quality goods were discovered. This number in the first 4 months of 2025 was more than 30,000, of which 1,450 cases were prosecuted.

Thereby, Mr. Tam emphasized that the production and trade of counterfeit goods, trade fraud, and smuggling are complicated despite the efforts of authorities.

Counterfeit and fake goods not only cause economic damage, threaten people's health and lives, but also damage the reputation of legitimate businesses and reduce people's trust in domestic goods.

According to delegate Tam, this situation also hinders economic development, causes loss of state budget revenue, social instability and investment environment.

The Kon Tum delegation also expressed concern that hundreds of thousands of counterfeit products have been sold on the market for many years, notably fake food, cosmetics, and drugs.

A recent notable case is a production and trade ring of hundreds of tons of fake functional foods involving a ministerial-level official, which has just been prosecuted by the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency.

In addition, counterfeit goods are rampant on social networks with the participation of celebrities and social media influencers in advertising, making it difficult for users to distinguish between genuine and fake goods.

From the complicated developments of counterfeit goods, Mr. To Van Tam suggested that the Government strengthen inspection and review of the process of organizing the implementation of functions and tasks of functional agencies, avoiding overlap in management.

According to Mr. To Van Tam, counterfeit goods are a very serious social and ethical problem, large-scale, with sophisticated tricks and collusion by some corrupt public officials. Therefore, the prevention of counterfeit goods and commercial fraud needs to be raised to the level of a national strategy to have effective, synchronous and long-term policies.

Delegate Nguyen Tran Phuong Tran, Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that fighting counterfeit goods and trade fraud is a vital requirement for the economy.

"Reality shows that we have done it but not strongly enough, not thoroughly enough. Recent inspections in the locality have discovered many violations, showing that the problem is very serious" - delegate Nguyen Tran Phuong Tran clearly stated.

However, according to Ms. Tran, we have only seen "anti" but not "construction". The existence of counterfeit goods is due to consumers' concern about brand reputation, so many establishments have borrowed the name of other famous brands to sell their goods more easily.

From there, the female delegate recommended launching a movement to build Vietnamese brands - each business and each industry needs to create its own brand, associated with real quality, clear origin, green and transparent production.

Citing successful cases such as Bac Giang lychee, ST25 rice, Vinfast cars... Ms. Nguyen Tran Phuong Chan said that if there is the right strategy and policy support, Vietnamese brands can absolutely go far.

Delegate Le Huu Tri (Khanh Hoa delegation) emphasized that one of the top priorities of the Government in the coming time is to resolutely fight against the crime of producing and trading counterfeit and fake goods. He is also concerned that counterfeit and fake goods threaten people's health and lives and also undermine the trust of society.

Mr. Tri raised the question, although the legal system has covered almost every aspect, along with strict supervision from the border, border gates to residential areas, why are hundreds of tons of fake drugs, fake functional foods and foods that do not guarantee quality still being produced, circulated and sold openly at pharmacies, legal stores, even appearing in hospitals, kitchens and schools?

From this situation, Mr. Tri said that the Government needs to innovate management methods to prevent violations and not create an environment for criminal activities to exist. Along with that, it is necessary to build a strict legal corridor to handle violations, organize inspections, detect and strictly handle law enforcement officers who cover up and assist criminals.
