When journalists go all out to convey emotions to readers

The 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day is not only a sacred moment for the Vietnamese people but also an emotional and responsible “test” for the team of journalists in Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the whole country in general. In this important event, the “silent warriors” conveyed their emotions to millions of people at home and abroad through articles, photos, videos… in the fastest way.

During the April 30th celebration, about 700 reporters and journalists participated in working in Ho Chi Minh City.

In the last days of April, when Ho Chi Minh City was filled with the red color of flags and flowers and the heroic echoes of revolutionary music in preparation for the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), among the bustling crowd, reporters and journalists in Ho Chi Minh City were "disheveled". They were not only the ones recording reality, but also the ones telling stories through images and the language of the times, contributing to reviving the historical atmosphere and spreading the spirit of the April 30th Festival throughout the country and the world .

Reporter Pham Nguyen Phu Tho , Tien Phong newspaper, was honored and proud to work at the parade on April 30.

Photojournalist Pham Nguyen Phu Tho of Tien Phong Newspaper is still moved when recalling the journey of more than a month of “eating and sleeping” at Bien Hoa airport. To capture the moment when the Su-30MK2 and Yak-130 tore through the sky, a symbol of the power of the Vietnamese Army, he did not hesitate to overcome his fear of heights and airsickness.

“Every time I board a helicopter, it is a challenge, but also a professional honor. The photos I take are not only a work of art, but also a source of pride in being able to contribute to the work I love,” said Pham Nguyen Phu Tho.

Similarly, reporter Manh Linh of Tin Tuc and Dan Toc Newspaper (Vietnam News Agency) also spent days "hanging out" on the plane and getting sunburned under the scorching summer sun, in order to have timely products to serve readers.

“When I saw the red flag with yellow star flying in the sky, my heart was filled with emotion. It was not only a beautiful image but also an emotional story that I sent to millions of readers nationwide,” reporter Manh Linh shared.

Reporter Manh Linh said: "During the coverage of the April 30th celebration, I told myself that I had to do my best to bring readers not only images, but also emotions of a sacred moment of the country. I think the responsibility of a journalist is not only to bring honest and objective information but also to convey emotions so that people and international friends can understand a resilient Vietnam that always loves peace."

Meanwhile, reporter Luong Y of VTC News said that in the era of rapidly developing social networks, false information can spread at breakneck speed, requiring journalists to not only work quickly but also accurately with strong political will.

“The job of a journalist when reporting on important national events is not simply to record videos or write articles, but also to process data and verify it continuously, every minute, every hour, to ensure authenticity. Each news item published in the newspaper is a commitment to the public about the honesty of the writer and the entire editorial office of that newspaper,” said reporter Luong Y.

Young reporter Anh Tu, Lao Dong newspaper and reporter Hoang Tuyet, Tin Tuc and Dan Toc newspaper worked together at 3:00 a.m. on April 30, 2025.

As for young reporter Anh Tu, who takes photos, films, and does post-production for news bulletins of Lao Dong Newspaper in Ho Chi Minh City, to get a complete photo or an impressive video, behind it are countless steps of the journalist including surveying the location, choosing the camera angle, preparing batteries, memory cards, spare equipment... For journalists, when reporting on major events, staying up all night, eating quick meals, carrying heavy backpacks on their shoulders... are common. However, despite the difficulties and hardships, they do not deter true journalists.

According to journalists, the images and footage of the April 30th celebration do not stop at just the function of communicating the event. Because with the role of guiding and reflecting social life, the press has been and is continuing to write history in the language of the times, helping the younger generation “see themselves in the story of the country”, understand more about their ancestors and make the world love a resilient Vietnam more.

On the occasion of the April 30th Anniversary this year, the press team witnessed a record number of 169 international reporters from 58 news agencies from 17 countries, more than 700 reporters from 106 domestic press agencies working together. Although the conditions for travel and accommodation were not easy, everyone tried their best to bring the news to readers as quickly and accurately as possible.

“The ‘press arms’ have made a very important contribution in recording, conveying and spreading the atmosphere of the April 30th Festival to the people of the whole country; creating positive effects on domestic and international media platforms, thereby contributing to reviving the heroic historical moments of the nation and marking today's young generation with love for the homeland and country”, commented Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

Today's press team is contributing to spreading emotional images at the April 30th Ceremony.

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, affirmed: the press is increasingly demonstrating its independent, critical, courageous, creative role, not afraid of difficulties to reflect the thorny issues of life. Through reaching out to the public, the press has been the focal point for mobilizing intellectual contributions from many social classes, thereby forming policies and strategies for the development of the City.

“Today, journalists and press agencies do not only report news, many journalists and press agencies also organize “advice” columns and open forums for policy consultation from citizens and experts. This shows that the press is not only a voice of reflection but also a force for policy creation, shaping social thinking and promoting sustainable development,” Mr. Nguyen Van Nen added.
