On the morning of June 19, the Military Recruitment Board, Ministry of National Defense held a press conference to introduce the 2025 military recruitment work. Major General Phung Thi Phu, Deputy Director of the Department of Military Training - School (General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army) chaired the meeting.
Major General Phung Thi Phu spoke at the meeting.
In 2025, 20 military schools will enroll nearly 4,400 military university and college students, a decrease of nearly 1,000 compared to last year. The schools use three methods, including: direct admission, priority admission for candidates who have won national and international awards; based on the competency assessment test scores organized by two national universities; and considering high school graduation exam scores. Compared to last year, the military school block has stopped considering academic records.
However, the number of candidates applying to military schools has increased. This year, the number of qualified candidates is more than 33,200, nearly 42% higher than last year.
Colonel Nguyen Van Thai, Head of the Secretariat of the Military Admissions Board, Ministry of National Defense, said that schools with a high number of preliminary registration applications are the Political Officer School, with more than 6,700 applications and 766 enrollment targets; the Military Technical Academy with nearly 5,000 applications and 360 enrollment targets; the Border Guard Academy with more than 3,500 applications and 250 enrollment targets; and the Military Medical Academy with more than 3,200 applications and 180 enrollment targets.
This year, the number of candidates eligible to apply to military schools is nearly 42% higher than last year.
Colonel Do Thanh Tam, Secretary of the Military Admissions Board, added that the number of applications to military schools has increased steadily over the past three years, with a 61% increase in 2024 compared to 2023. This result is thanks to propaganda and career guidance work. Military schools are required to visit all high schools in the area, and also conduct career guidance at high schools in at least 5 provinces and cities.
According to regulations, candidates who have submitted their preliminary application to a military school, if they wish, can still adjust their application to another military school in the same group of schools. Group 1 includes the following academies: Logistics, Navy, Border Guard, Air Defense-Air Force (Command and Staff system) and Officer Schools: Army 1, Army 2, Politics, Special Forces, Artillery, Armored, Chemical, Information, and Engineering.
Group 2 includes the following Academies: Military Engineering, Military Medicine, Military Science, Air Defense - Air Force (Aviation Engineering). For college training, candidates can adjust their admission wishes between the following schools: Air Force Officer, College of Cryptography Engineering, College of Information Engineering and College of National Defense Industry.
In the 2025 admission season, military schools will consider admission using 13 combinations. Of which, 6 combinations are similar to last year, including A00 (math, physics, chemistry), A01 (math, physics, English), B00 (math, chemistry, biology), C00 (literature, history, geography), D01 (math, literature, English), D02 (math, literature, Russian), D04 (math, literature, Chinese).
The new combinations are C01 (literature, math, physics), C02 (literature, math, chemistry), C03 (literature, math, history), C04 (literature, math, geography), D07 (math, chemistry, English) and A0T (math, physics, IT).
Military schools will give bonus points to candidates with third prize at provincial level or higher, international language certificate equivalent to IELTS 5.5, SAT certificate 1,068/1,600 or ACT 18 or higher.
Candidates with international language certificates can use them to convert into foreign language scores when considering high school graduation exam scores if they want. The conversion level for IELTS from 5.5 and above is 8 to 10 points for English.
Candidates should note that if they meet the admission requirements (except for high school graduation requirements), they must continue to register their highest admission wish (wish 1) on the Ministry of Education and Training's General Admission Support System to be considered for admission according to regulations.
