Working in the sun and rain at the construction site of the 500kW Lao Cai - Vinh Yen power line
TPO - In recent days, the weather in Phu Tho has been extremely hot, sometimes exceeding 37 degrees Celsius, sometimes pouring rain. However, at the construction site of the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line, nearly 3,000 workers are still working hard, determined to complete the project on schedule on August 19, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.

At the construction site of the 500kV power line through Phu Tho province, hundreds of meters high towers are gradually being completed. In the photo is the location of pillar number 335, in Yen Lang commune, Phu Tho province. The pillar is located close to a residential area, the road up is narrow, mainly dirt road. To bring the 100-ton crane to the construction site, the construction unit had to spend 2 days moving, even having to use tile roofs to prevent mud. Local people also actively supported, gave up land, creating favorable conditions for the project to be implemented smoothly. Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, representative of Duc Long Power Grid Construction Company Limited, said that the unit is constructing pillar No. 335, which will be over 100m high after completion. Due to the erratic weather in the Northern midland and mountainous region, the construction has encountered many obstacles. “Working at a height of over 100m is very demanding, out of 100 workers, only 3-4 people can meet the requirements. The unit has 8 people who meet the requirements, each shift uses 4 people, who are lifted high to work. It is sunny, the outside temperature is 37-38 degrees Celsius, touching metal structures can burn your hands, so you have to wear thick protective clothing and specialized gloves. When it rains, it is even more difficult and dangerous, as soon as there is a sign of rain, you have to lower yourself down immediately to avoid lightning strikes,” Mr. Hung shared.
Moving to many other construction sites encountered many difficulties, some were located deep in the forest or in the fields, requiring the construction unit and workers to make efforts in complex terrain conditions.
In the blazing sun, workers hang from the crane rope, suspended in mid-air to install the pillars. In the photo is the location of the VT370 pillar, the pillar crossing the Lo River is 130m high, weighs 352 tons when completed, this is also one of the largest pillars in the entire 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen line.
Beads of sweat rolled down the worker's face in the hot sun. Present at column 380 of the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project, despite the hot weather of over 37 degrees Celsius, workers here are still working diligently and enthusiastically to complete the column segments.
Mr. Phan Dong Minh - Deputy Head of Hoa Binh Power Transmission Team, Phu Tho Province - said that the unit was assigned to construct 2 poles 380, 378 of the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen line project. To complete the assigned task, the unit mobilized 59 workers to perform the installation for more than 10 days. Up to now, 50% of the volume has been completed. According to Mr. Minh, the unit only has the task of transmitting and transporting electricity from the power plant to the load centers, ensuring safe, stable and efficient power supply for consumers, while construction and installation is considered a "side job". However, assigned by the Vietnam Electricity Group, the staff and workers try their best, overcome difficulties and hardships, make the most of the time, and try to complete the assigned schedule.
“The poles of the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen line are all round poles, making installation very difficult. To complete the task, workers work during the day and at night, they research and think creatively about good ways to install the components accurately, ensuring technical and safety standards…”, said Mr. Minh.
The 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project is a national key project, with a total length of 229.5km with 468 column foundation positions, passing through many localities, with a total investment of 7,410 billion VND. The project plays an important role in transmitting power from hydropower plants in the Northwest region and connecting with the national power system to coordinate electricity from the plains to the Northwest.
