On the afternoon of October 16th, at the Q3/2025 press conference, Ms. Tran Thi Huyen, Acting Director of the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City, stated that the teacher shortage is not unique to Can Tho. Following the administrative merger, Can Tho City inherited educational facilities from the former Hau Giang, former Soc Trang , and Can Tho City, and there have been no major adjustments to the organizational structure yet.

Regarding the teacher shortage at 41 high schools in the former Soc Trang province, Ms. Tran Thi Huyen stated that the Department has worked with the Department of Finance and the People's Committee of Soc Trang City to expedite the payment of outstanding teaching hours to teachers. Approximately 16 billion VND has been allocated from the Soc Trang budget and will be used to pay salaries and related expenses. If there is still a shortfall, the department will request additional funding.
Regarding the promotion of teachers after many years of inactivity, the Department of Internal Affairs has agreed to allow the Department of Education and Training to implement the promotion process according to the approved quotas. The education sector is currently reviewing the job position plan to submit to the People's Committee for approval. After approval, units will receive applications and conduct promotions according to regulations: a maximum of 10% for Grade I and no more than 50% for Grade II.
In addition, Can Tho is also adjusting the planning of the school network after the merger. Once the planning scheme is finalized, the Department of Education and Training will publicly announce the information, ensuring consistency and suitability to the specific realities of each locality.
According to Ms. Huyen, ahead of the 2025-2026 school year, the education sector has mobilized over 20 billion VND from social resources to support preparations for the new school year.
The Can Tho 2 Bridge, costing over 28.5 trillion VND, is expected to begin construction in 2027.
Also at the press conference, Mr. Mai Van Tan, Director of the Department of Construction of Can Tho City, said that the Can Tho Bridge 2 project is proposed as a road-railway combination, with a total investment of approximately 28,500 billion VND. The project is currently being appraised by the Ministry of Construction. According to the plan, the project will start construction in 2027 and be completed in 2032. Can Tho Bridge 2 is planned to be located about 6km east of the existing Can Tho Bridge, connecting with the IC2 interchange and the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway.
