On the afternoon of June 22, at the Conference Hall of Yen Bai Provincial Military Command, the Command of Military Region 2 held a conference to hand over and merge the Yen Bai Provincial Military Command into Lao Cai Provincial Military Command.

Attending and chairing the Conference were Lieutenant General Pham Duc Duyen, Party Secretary, Political Commissar of Military Region 2; Comrade Trinh Xuan Truong, Provincial Party Secretary, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee; Comrade Ta Van Long, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Yen Bai Provincial People's Council.

At the Conference, Major General To Quang Hanh, Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 2, announced Decision No. 2804 dated June 15, 2025 of the Minister of National Defense on merging and reorganizing the Military Commands of Lao Cai and Yen Bai provinces into the Military Command of Lao Cai province, under Military Region 2.

The new Lao Cai Provincial Military Command belongs to Military Region 2, with 5 defense area commands.

Speaking at the Conference, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong acknowledged the efforts of the Military Commands of Yen Bai and Lao Cai provinces during the implementation of the Ministry of National Defense's policy.

"Military Region 2 has actively prepared the required contents to organize the conference to hand over the status quo of the Military Commands of the two provinces, serving the establishment of the new Lao Cai Provincial Military Command," said Secretary Trinh Xuan Truong.

After the merger, Lao Cai province only has the 8th largest area out of 34 provinces and cities nationwide with border areas and many ethnic minorities. Therefore, it is necessary to continue implementing Resolution 18 on a number of issues on continuing to innovate and reorganize the political system to be streamlined and operate effectively and efficiently, so that the new apparatus can soon operate stably. Successfully organize Party Congresses at all levels, focus on socio-economic development with a growth target of over 10%.

To achieve that goal, he hopes to continue receiving attention from the Ministry of National Defense and Military Region 2 so that the new Lao Cai province can continue to maintain stability, focus on socio-economic development, ensure national defense, security, social order and safety, carry out foreign affairs well, and create momentum for sustainable development.

At the conference, leaders of the two provinces signed the minutes of handover and merger of the Yen Bai Provincial Military Command to the Lao Cai Provincial Military Command.
